Mariko : These Days... (2)

I hadn't been able to see my Lang-8 page correctly these days, and I had not log in for a long time.
(Today, I tried to log in, and my page is fine on my computer!)

Well, there were several things I wanted to write here in last few month.
At the end of April. my son fell and broke his arm.
It was not so bad, just a hairline fracture.
At first, he felt hard pain, of course, but after four or five days, he played outsede with his friends. ^_^;
（He even rode a bicycle and I scolded him!!)
He's fine now.
Children recuperate from fracture quickly, as his doctor said.

A few weeks ago, my son won at a karate competition.
I didn't think he won, because he couldn't practice so much (because of the fracture).
But he did it.
We're going to go to Tokyo (for a national championship) this summer!

I think the "hay fever season" has come here.
(The allergen is silver burch, I guess.)
My eyes are itchy!!
But I don't sneeze so much this year.
I hope it will over soon...

Mariko : Cold (1)

I think I cought a cold.

At first, I had a sore throat.
But next day, it got better and I sneezed a lot.
My nose were runny, too.
So I thought that it was an alergy.
(I have a kind of alergy, pollen of white birch, maybe.)
However I have been having bad chills since yesterday.
(I don't have a feaver.)
I don't have an appetite.

I took a Chinese harb medicine.
A salesperson brought it to my house about a month ago.
At that time, I said that I didn't need it because I rarely became sick.
It is true (I generallay fine), but I used the medicine today and it worked.
I feel better now.
I'll pay for it when he becomes here again.
(He left a medicine box filled with some medicine. If I don't use it, no money will be required. If I use some, I'll pay for them. That's the system.)

I'll go to bed early today.
I hope you all are fine today.
Take care of yourself. ^_^

Mariko : Piano (9)

I ordered an electronic piano today.
I can't play the piano (or I can't read scores), so it's not for me.

My four-year-old daughter is going to take piano lessons.
She has kept saying, "I want to learn piano." for about six month.
At first, she also said that she wanted to learn dance or ballet, so I didn't let her learn anything.
She thought them over and she made up her mind.
She promised me that she will practice the piano hard.
(I'm a strict mother, so I think she'll keep her word.)

I don't know anything about a piano so it was not easy to buy one.
(I don't know which one to choose.)
I live in a countryside and there aren't any musical instrument store, so I had to order one on the internet.
I'm tired...

Well, I hope my daughter keeps practice piano, and I will be able to listen to a sound of piano in my house.

Mariko : Long Time No See. (6)

Hello, every one.
I think it's been a long time since I wrote a diary last.

Around my house, there is still a lot of snow, but it's getting hotter these days.
I think spring is coming.
Too bad that I wasn't able to go skiing only once this winter, but I'm glad winter is over.

In Japan, school year begins in April.
My son will go to elementary school soon.
I've been busy recently because I have to prepare a lot of things for him.
(I haven't finished it yet...)

I want to begin something new.
I think so every year when spring is coming.
I don't think I'll begin new things this year.
Insted of that, I may reopen studying Russian.
Russian is too difficult for me and I gave it up (or suspend it) about two years ago, but I miss it these days.
I think I like Russian more than I imagined. ^_^
(...Oh, but I like Spanish the best, of course.)

Mariko : I Can't!! (1)

I'd kept runnning since last October for more than two months.
But I can't run these days, because the roads around here are frozen and slippery.
I tried to run several times but it was too dangerous.
Actually, I bought a pair of shoes which are said to help me runnning in the snow.
Well, I was able to run with them on the snow, that was true.
But on an ice, I wasn't able to (I slipped and almost fell).
So I'm going to walk.
Anyway I have to walk my dogs every day, and I'm taking them for a longer walk these days.
Sometimes I slip and my dags also slip and fall.
But I don't mind. XD
They seem happy with a long walk.

I give up runnning during the winter, but I'm going to start runnning again when spring comes.
I'm alone now, because my husband took winter vacation earlier than usual and went to his parents house with my children.
(I can't take vacation now, so I have to be here.)
I'm enjoying this situation.
I watched DVDs last night.
Usually, my husband (who works in a farm and gets up early) goes to bed around nine with my children, so I have to be quiet.
(I watch DVD sometimes after they go to bed, but I have to wear head phone.)
But last night, I can sit on a sofa and watch DVDs.
That was fun!

I'm going to go shopping tomorrow to buy Christmas presents for my children.

I've been changing a carpet of my children's room.

I miss them a little, but I have so many things I want to do (and I have to do).
I like it. ^_^

Mariko : Get a Haircut (1)

I got a haircut yesterday.
It was nine months ago that I had got a haircut last.
Why didn't I go to a hair salon such a long time?
Well, in spring, I wanted to go there, but I have a pollinosis and I couldn't stand my hair touching my face (it was too itchy!!!).
So I tied and pined up my hair all the time.
In summer, my pollinosis got well, but it was hot.
I don't like my hair sticking my neck or face when I sweat, so I decided not to cut my hair until autumn.

I practice karate twice or three times a week, and I need to tie my hair.
So I didn't have my hair cut short, but had it thinner.
I don't have to tie it today.

But the weather forecast says that it will be raining tomorrow.
I have unmanageable hair so I guess I have to tie it tomorrow. I'll show you my "not-so-good" handwriting. XD
This is a part of my letter to my students and thier parents.
(I write a lette to them about once a month.)

When I read comments that my friends gave me on my last entry, I was confused a little, because I was not sure which handwriting I should show.
I can't show you letters (I was too embarrassed to show them. And they're not here anymore!), memos are not good because I scrawled them, and I don't feel showing my pocket diary (because there are some information that I shouldn't show you, like someone's phone number).
At last, I found this letter.

Um...can you read it???
(I mean, if you understand Japanese.)
I'm sure it is quite different from the letters that you look in a Japanese books, but this is MY handwriting.

Mariko : Handwriting (8)

I like to write.
Not only letters, but memos, diaries, notes, and so on.
However, my handwriting is not so good.
I mean, I don't think it's illegible, but there is something striking about it.
When I have to write something in front of other people, like my friends' wedding ceremonies and sign papers, I always feel uneasy.

One of my students gave me a letter.
So I wrote her back.
The next week, she went to me and said,
"Your handwriting is cute. How can you write it?"
...What???
For her, my handwriting looks cute.
(She didn't say "beautiful", of course.)

Well, when someone speak well of something I don't really like, I think I can look it from another angle.
Maybe my handwriting is not so bad.
(At least, everybody can read it.)
I can't (or... won't, maybe) change my handwriting, but I'll pay attention to write neatly.

Do you like to write?
Or do you prefer to typing?
Is your handwriting is beautiful?

Mariko : Married Life (12)

Some weeks ago, I wrote an e-mail to a professor who helped me a lot when I was in a university.
He wrote me back, and said,
"I didn't know you were married. Try hard to be happy."

In Japan, many people say "I wish you every happiness" or such a thing to someone who gets married.
Not many people say "try hard" or "make an effort" to be happy.
But I do agree with the opinion.
I have to make a great effor to be happy in my married life.
...And keep doing it.
I don't mean to say that my husband is a terrible man.
But we had lived different lives more than 25 years and got married, so we have different habits and ways of thinking.
Sometimes I have to compromise, sometimes I have to be patient.
(I'm sure my husband does the same things.)

I sometimes thought that maybe I got married to wrong man, because we had a lot of quarrels and we had conflicting opinions on many things.
But...I guess it's normal.
I think most of married couple, including the professor and his wife, have the same worries and make effort.

Well, but still, I'm sometimes worried about my life. XD

Marriage is not easy.

I'm sure that you think this is a disappointing opinion if you're not married yet, but...this is how the world goes! XD

Mariko : Bronze (5)

I'm home!
My children and I had been to Tokyo last week.
Tokyo was so hot that we couldn't live without an air conditioner.

We went to the Ueno Zoo to see pandas (they were cute!), and to Tokyo Disney Land (there were so many people!!), because my children wanted to go, but they frequently complained about the heat.
I wonder they enjoyed the trip, but they say it was fun.

My vacation was over, and I had to go back to work yesterday.

By the way, my son got a bronze medal at a karate competition.
There were some tasks that he should overcome, but I praised his performance.
I hope he'll practice karate harder, and get gold medal next time. ^_^
...Am I greedy?

Mariko : Packing (6)

I'm going to go to Tokyo with my children this Friday.
My son practices karate and there will be a competition there.
Last year, he wasn't able to win.
I (and my son) hope he will win two or three matches this year.
(Of course, he practices hard.)

I have to pack for the travel.
We'll stay my parents home, so we don't have to bring towels, soap, shampoo, or that kind of things.
Their house is in a city, so if I forget to bring something, I can buy it easily, as far as I don't forget to bring my wallet. XD
All I have to pack is clothes, including my son's uniform.
I can wash our clothes there, and I think I don't have to pack a lot of clothes.
However, I don't travel so many time, so I tend to bring heavy baggage...

Well, I think it's time to start packing.

Do you often travel?
And are you good at packing?
(If you are, I'd like you to help me. XD)
There is a good harvest of strawberries at my garden this year.
Every day, my children and I have been enjoying strawberries.
Some of them are very small, and some of them are worm-eaten, so today, I made strawberry jam with them.
I used one bowl of strawberries, but I got only a small jar of jam. ^_^;
We'll eat it tomorrow with homemade baguette.
I can't wait!

Mariko : Are You From Canada? (2)

Are you from Canada?
And are you good at Japanese?

I have a question.

I have a kind of homework.
I have to translate a script of a documentary about Gros Morne Natioanal Park in Canada (Newfoundland).
In the script, there is a word, "the Big Level".
I looked up some books and web sites, and I realized that it is a name of a mountain of Long Range Mountains.
(Is it true???)
The problem is, I have to translate it in Japanese.
I can't find any books or web sites which mention "the Big Level" written in Japanese.
Does anyone know what we call the mountain in Japanese?
If you know the Japanese name, or have some hints about the mountain, please tell me about it.

Thank you for your reading.
