English Practice 

The food was too hot to eat.
= The food was so hot that I/he/she/we couldn't eat it.)
(or "that nobody could eat it")
食べ物はとても熱くて食べられませんでした。

The food was too hot for me to eat.
( = The food was so hot that I couldn't eat it.)
食べ物はとても熱くて私には食べられませんでした。

These boxes are too heavy to carry.
( = These boxes are so heavy that I/he/she/we can't carry them.)
これら箱はとても重くてはこべません。

These boxes are too heavy for her to carry.
(= These boxes are so heavy that she can't carry them.)
これら箱は、とても重くて彼女には運べません。

I am too shy to make a speech.
( = I am so shy that I cannot make a speech.)
私はとても恥ずかしがりなのでスピーチができません。

He is too tired to work.
( = He is so tired that he can't work.)
彼はあまりに疲れているので働くことができません。

I am too sleepy to study.
( = I am so sleepy that I can't study.)
私はあまりに眠いので勉強できません。

This question is too difficult for me to solve.
(= This question is so difficult that I cannot solve it.)
この問題は難しすぎて私には解けません。

  • ( = The food was so hot that I can't eat.)
  • ( = The food was so hot that I couldn't eat it.) -- both words have to be in the same tense

 

  • ( = These boxes are so heavy that can't carry.)
  • ( = These boxes are so heavy that can't carry them.)

 

  • (= These boxes are so heavy that she can't carry.)
  • (= These boxes are so heavy that she can't carry them.)

 

  • ( = I am so sleep that I can study.)
  • ( = I am so sleepy that I can't study.)

  • ( = The food was so hot that I/he/she/we couldn't eat it.) (or "that nobody could eat it") (The previous sentence doesn't specify who, and that's fine, but this kind of sentence needs it in order to be grammatically correct.)
