How do you treat a pet in your country?

Recently, The Japanese actress who married a frenchman was saying on TV talk show.

"The Japanese and French are different that the way of treat their pets."

A Japanese treats pets like family, but the french treats it like animals.

Both have the same about the foster care for pets.

From perspective of the French, It seems like that Japanese people slobber over their pets.

Just in case you didn't know. Not all Japanese owners treats like that.

But certainly in Japan, There might be a trend that seems more like a woman living alone and couples without children.

I was actually surprised by how some Japanese people treat their pets. Like, in a negative way. Extremely short chains on dogs? Other dogs locked up indefinitely in small areas with only food and water and no companionship?
Not always the case, of course; just what I've noticed around where I've lived.
I guess, as an American, I care more intensely for my pets than even Japanese people do. I don't think I'll be going to France anytime soon...it sounds like the treatment of their animals would make me sad @0@
