Spring Festival
In China, we always can get paid holidays in Chinese New Year, also called Lunar New Year or Spring Festival.
The Spring Festival falls on 1st day of the 1st lunar month, often one month later than the Gregorian calendar. We frequently shop New Year’s stuff before New Year’s day. The night before New Year’s Day, a big meal was prepared for the gathering of the whole family called reunion meal. After having the warm and bountiful food, it is very funny to stroll in a flower street covered with crowded people to buy any flowers or lucky stuff or only soak up the atmosphere. At the click of 12 o’clock, all families without exception will set off firecrackers welcoming a new year, it is said it’s believed to drive out evil spirits and ward off ill effect, then bring good fortune in the coming year.
The new year celebration is from 1st to 15th of the 1st lunar month. On New Year’s Day, everyone participates a sports competition held by village committee at primary school. It brings much funny and laugh to us. In our culture, that’s not good to visit others in this day. Apart from the first day, therefore, we feel free to visit relatives and friends during new year holidays. During all that time, the children can get the lucky money and encouragement from their elders that got married, we worship our ancestor and go to temple to worship God also, and we perhaps play cards or gather together for sharing our own lives or experience. I like playing fireworks and seeing lion dance when I was a kid. So far, they are still existing. At the last day of New Year, the huge fireworks display is regularly held and viewed by all the villagers that joined this beautiful and fantastic meeting.
With my bad English, I could not express the whole new year’s things clearly. The last thing is if you still single now, you also can get the lucky money from others who got married in New Year. We have got around 15 days to go until the Spring Festival. Give my so earlier wishes to you all. Haha…….
All the best! Happy Spring Festival!
