高校のころ、大事な日本人のペンフレンドがいた。いい関係だった。小さなプレゼントを交換して、某国語を少し互いに教え合って、とても楽しかった。
でもあの人が入学試験があったし、私も大学が大変だったし、文通をもう続けられなかった。
２００５に日本の好きな会社の人と話して、昔のペンフレンドのことを思い出した。それから、日本語を勉強することにした。会えなくても、あの人を考えることが出来ます。
During my high school years, I had a dear pen friend from Japan. It was a wonderful relationship. We exchanged little gifts, taught each other a bit of our respective tongues, and enjoyed ourselves very much. Unfortunately, as she had entrance exams to prepare for, and I also had the university to worry about, we were not able to continue our correspondence.
In 2005, while talking to a co-worker who loved Japan, I recalled my pen-friends from all those years ago. I decided then to take up Japanese. Though I won't be able to meet her again, I can still think about her.
בתקופת התיכון, היתה לי חברה לעט, יקרה לליבי. הקשר היה קשר אמיץ. החלפנו בינינו מתנות קטנות, לימדנו זו את זו מעט משפות האם שלנו, ונהנינו מאוד. לרוע המזל, לה היו מבחני כניסה לאוניברסיטה, וגם אני התמודדתי באותה עת עם האוניברסיטה. לא יכולנו להמשיך את הקשר.
ב־2005, כששוחחתי עם חברה לעבודה חובבת-יפן, נזכרתי באותה חברה לעט מלפני שנים רבות, והחלטתי ללמוד יפנית. אף על פי שלא נוכל להיפגש עוד, אני יכולה תמיד לחשוב עליה.
