I explain one of Japanese phrases and how to use it today.

Today's phrase is "肩を持つ."

This literally means "have/hold shoulders"
However another meaning is "take sides," "back up," "defend," and "support."
You can use it in the situation such as your favorite people are in big trouble or are accused

Here is an example sentense.

[Example 1]
You are chatting with your friends at a cafe.

Friend: "What's wrong? You don't look well."
「どうしたの?元気ないみたいだけど。」

YOU: "Yeah. I had a big fight with my mom this morning."
「うーん、今朝お母さんと大ゲンカしちゃって。」

"It was definitely my little sister's fault. My mom never listened to me."
「明らかに妹のせいなのに。ママは聞いてくれなかったの。」

"My mom always take her side."
「ママはいつも妹の肩を持つんだ。」

By the way, what do you say when you have a pain in your legs after you did sports a lot.
Muscles pain? I have sore in my legs? My legs are sore?

That last one ^0^ "My legs are sore" is what you say. I see a lot of English learners that say "I have muscle pain", but it's extremely awkward and unnatural x0x I've never heard a native speaker speak like that, and I've never said it...
Thank you for the explanation! ^0^ I think an equivalent in English might be "I've got your back!"
