脂肪人 : Job interview (0)

I just experienced the most thrilling hours yesterday. I got an interview in Taoyuan, and it was really a good chance to me to enter the airline company. And I also take this opportunity very seriously.

Guess what happened?

I overslept!!!

My interview was at 9am in Taoyuan, but I was woken up at 8am in Miaoli because my alarm didn'r ring!!! It usually takes one and half hours from Miaoli to Taoyuan and I still need time to fix myself up, so I was thinking "Holy crap, I gonna miss the interview!!" Then I jumped out of my bed and graped all the stuffs I need into the car without washing face and brushing teeth. I changed my clothes and wore make-up in car, and my brother drove really fast toward to Taoyuan. You know how difficult it is to make up my face in car, I think my make-up was disgusting because I didn't wash my face before making up.

That was really close, fortunately, we arrived at Taoyuan at 8:53am. I run to the interview in high heels. Thanks God, I caught up the interview. I quicklt clamed myself down, and did the interview. I guess none of the interviewers found out what I just had been through.
They should accept me! LOL

Taiwan Lantern Festival is elected by Discovery as one of the most fantastic festivals all over the world. It is held in different counties by turns, and this year is Miaoli's turn. Probably most of you havn't ever heard about Miaoli before since it's not as civilized as Taipei or Kaohsiung, but it pops people's eyes this time by holding Taiwan Lantern Festival of this year.

This festival is the biggest event for Miaoli in the last 60 years and it is also the biggest Lantern Festival for Taiwan ever. I am from Miaoli and I never thought of this event would bring so many people here. Honestly, I was shocked by the crowd. The number of visitors to Taiwan Lantern Festival is much more than the one to Flora Expo which is held in Taipei.

You can see the link on Youtube and you'll know how crowded it was at the festival.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnTZq-xjYaQ

And the photo was taken at the train station by me when I took the train back to my hometown.

But it's really a great festival, you can see my picutres. I can't upload many as I wish because the limit. So if you guys want to see more pictures, you can just google them on-line. I beleive that there are must many pictures of Taiwan Lantern Festival.

脂肪人 : Most of Taiwanese girls like foreigners (7)

I always think Taiwan is a country embrased by so many external cultures, so Taiwanese are easy to accept foreign things. I just watched a TV program talking about Taiwanese and foreign boys. Why foreigners are so popular in Taiwan? Those foreigners on TV said when they are in night clubs, it's easier to pick up girls in Taiwan than in their own countries. Even my professor who is a sister from America told us in class about this situation beofre.
Taiwanese girls like foreigners because of these following reasons:
1. Foreigners are handsome?
2. They want to have a mixed baby.
3. She will be the envy of other Taiwanese girls because she has a foreign boyfriend.

Taiwanese are xenomanias. I am not saying all the Taiwanese are all like this, but most of Taiwanese have this trend including me. If there are two boys standing in fornt of me, one is a Taiwanese and another is an American, I will talk to the American boy. Even the Taiwanese is really a handsome man and the American is ugly, I will first talk to the American. Why? It's all out of curiosity. The first sight I see is their appearance, the American is so different with me, so I am curious.

I wonder how you guys think of this phonomenon. Do you think Taiwanese are easy to pick up? Are Taiwanese are xenomanias?

脂肪人 : abot working holiday (2)

I know nowadays working holoday is getting popular. People spend their winter or summer vacations to go abroad and have a part time job there. They can work and earn money to support their spending, besides they can travel around and practice the languages. It attracts me a lot. I want to go on a working holiday. Does anyone here have any experience of working holiday?

The popular countries for Taiwanese to go on a working holiday are Japan, Australia, New Zealand and America. I am thinking about Japan and Australia. The work you do depends on your language ability, if I don't speak the language well, I might be a fruit picker or a fisher. All the works are physical labors and maybe I only have little chance to speak with people since my work is facing fruit trees or fishes. It's okay for me to speak with people in English rather than in Japanese. So if I go to English speaking countries, I may have a better job. But if I go to Japan, I may work in a farm. But I want to go to Japan more to practice Japanese. It will force me to speak in Japanese, but I am so afraid of surviving in Japan. The language and the price are big problem for me. I can't make up my mind. But the very first thing I have to do is to convince my father to let me go.

脂肪人 : Speaking in other languages in a tiring thing (1)

It's been a very long that time I didn't write anything here, but it doesn't mean that I quit learning languages or suspend it. I am still working on it and starting learning Korean now. My learning partner of this semester is from the Philippines and she came to Taiwan without knowing any Chinese. So we have to speak in English of course. Things were okay at first, but recently I got tired of speaking in English. I asked a Japanese exchange student who's been in Taiwan for almost one year, she agreed with me that speaking other languages instead of your mother tongue is really a tiring thing. Because when we speak in our mother tongue, we just speak it out spontaneously without any thinking. But when we speak in other languages, we think too much. I think it's much more efficient to learn a language in the enviroment where the language is spoken. Because I am in Taiwan, sometimes I even speak to my leaning partner in Chinese and I am not aware of it at all. It's hard to switch the languages fast.

脂肪人 : Back to Taiwan (2)

After staying in the Philippines for one month, I came back to Taiwan finally. At the last day, I cried a lot and it was all because the feeling of departure.
At the last day, we had a final test and interview to evaluate how much you've learned during this month. In the oral interview, the teacher asked me what I will never forget in the Philippines. Then I think of the friends I met in there. I met not only the Filipino but also some Korean, Spanish and Dubai(Dubaian?). They are really friendly and we often drank together. Actually, the first time we met was in a bar. There was a very drunk black guy who was trying to follow us back to the hotel. And they saved us at that time. Since that, we became friends. Remember at first, I didn't want to stay in the Philippines, but now they are the reason and motivation that makes me want to stay longer and even go back to the Philippines again.
There are so many good memories in the Philippines with those guys and one of them become my little brother. We are like family. In their university, they enter at sixteen years old and graduate at about twenty years old. So any student in the university except those who delay is younger than I am. I am twenty years old but they said I look like only seventeen. That's sweet. And another sweet behavior they did is that boys would bring you home no matter when the time was and where you lived and even you met them at the first time. Although they are all younger than I am, I felt well security when they brought me home.
Well, friends there are good. Food in Taiwan is the best. lol

Hi, there. The first week in Philippine passed. I am learning how to survive in Philippone now because the people and enviroment here is so different campared to Taiwan's.
At the first day, I eagered to go home right away because I couldn't adapt at all. Due to the following problems I met. First, the traffic here is a terrible disorder. When I was in the car, I found every driver drives very close and always overtakes other cars. That is very dangerous! There are special transportations in Philippine, jeepney and tricycle, which are also dangerous, too. There are so many jeepney because the American army left a lot here after World War Two. Every jeepney on the roads has different outlooks and I guess they are all decoreated by their drivers, some are really cool. If the jeepney is full, the other passengers will stand outside the jeepney hodding someting that make them steady, do you dare do so? I don't. Besides, the tricycle drivers really love to overtake and drive between cars. As a result, the heavy traffic pollutes the air terriblely. And the second one is the food. Foos here is sweeter and a little of vegetables. They prefer meat. We need vegetables to eat so that we can poo. And the last one is the security. I was impressed that every store has a body-guard standing outside with a gun. I heard that people here can carry a gun if they apply for one. All of us are warned do not walk alone to anywhere even in days and when going shpping, keep eyes on your bag and holding it behind you. Maybe too many warnings make us feel more nervous. I went to the 7-11 here, and there were kids asking for money at the door. The taxi drivers see you are a foreigner, they will increse the fee. I was told that this February a Taiwanese student was hit by the taxi driver here. How horrible.
But things are getting better now. I am getting used to it step by step. Wish me a good luck.

脂肪人 : Start my summer vacation (1)

Final exams were over now. Finally, I get through the junior year. It means this summer vacation is the last one in my college life. So I can't waste this meaningful summer vacation.
In July, I will be a volunteer busy in an English camp. We prepare it for a whole month and then go to the remote area to teach children English. This summer camp is free for those children. Beacuse those children who live far away from cities are lack of eduation. Their living standard is low and couldn't afford the money to go to any summer camp. I think this summer camp not only give the opportunity to learn English but also bring those children a diffrerent experience. And this is my second time attending this summer camp, I am excited.
And in August, I will be in Philippines to improve my English skills. Some may ask why not go to America or Canada to learn English. Well. it is because I don't have much money. The spending in Philippines is lower, so I think it is okay for me to afford. The Philippine accent is the problem I am most worried. Someone who has been to Philippines told me that Philippine is also a nice place to learn English and the teachers' pronunciation is good. But I am still worried.

This semester I was very happy because I met a lot of exchange studends. Some of them are back to their countries now, and the others stay one more semester. I really appreciate they break into my life. I don't know when and where we will meet again, that is really sad. I am going to save money to visit them! Wait for me, my friends.

脂肪人 : Sliding Doors (0)

We never know what will happen next second. Things happened, and we followed to live on. It is the so-called fate. But how if I have the ability to change the past, what will I change? What if I made another decision? What if I listened to other’s suggestion? God knows.

After seeing the movie, Sliding Doors, I am wondering about if I were Helen, which life would I choose? Which do I care more, the end or the process? I think that I care more about the process. I don’t like cheating or hiding a secret from a person, and I also hate others who do so to me. I would rather know the cruel truth than know nothing just like a fool. I can’t stand for the third person in a relationship. Even the end is tragic; I still choose it because of the happy process.

But in fact, we don’t have the ability to make time reverse and back to the time before we made the decision. People usually regret what they have done. No matter how regretful they were, they can’t change those things that had happened. I don’t like the feeling of regret and be regretful. Whenever I make a decision, I will be sure about the decision I make, or just accept the result that decision leads to. So it is very important to think before we do anything.

脂肪人 : I met a lot of foreigners! (0)

I really love to meet people from different countries. Chatting with different background people makes a lot of fun. Althought our native languagers are different, we still can communicate with each other in English. So during these days getting along with foreigners, I do realize how important English is. And I feel that I need to practice more!!! Sometimes I wanted to say something but nothing came to my mind. Kind of frustrated.

Now I have met Korean, Japanese, American, Indian, and Swiss. Some of them are exchange students, and others only take language courses in our university. I remember I askd one of them why do you want to learn Chinese, and he answerd "I want to take over the world." Of course he was joking. But it is true that there are more and more people start to learn Chinese, I am a little proud of being a Chinese-native speaker. Some of them are relly good at Chinese. They have no problem to express their thougts, and even better when we argued for something, they could gag me. See, how good their Chinese is! haha

脂肪人 : busy week passed (1)

Last week, I had three exams, one report, and four presentations to do, because I was in the first group in many classes. At the beginning of a semester, we students usually drew by lot to decide who or which group is going to be the first one to give presentation. And I was the luckiest one.

Last week was really busy and terrible for me. I stayed up every night and got up around 7 in the morning because I had classes at 8. I got raccoon eyes for repayment at the end. Many friends of mine were scared by me.

In one class, I had a little quiz and had to gave a presentation, too. Two of our group members couldn't show up for some resaons, so I had to cover their parts. I was so anxious, then I failed the quiz and was absent-minded during my presentation. The teacher was angry and yelled "what's wrong with you, are you in love or something?" in front of the class and I was standing at the stage meanwhile. That was really embarrassing. But I didn't take offense at all, I just felt sorry to the teacher for my bad presentation and quiz. While everyone tried to console me, all I wanted to say was "I am single actually.". LOL

I am super optimistic person, I won't let myself down for too long.

Now the busy week passed, I can relax and revival agian. :D

脂肪人 : Long time no see!!! (4)

Hello, I am back with curly hair.
The school has already started, so I got lots of things to do.
I have three presentations during the first and the second week, so it is quit a hard time to through.
I met with my learning partner from China last week, and we got to know each other very soon because of the same language we use. We have no problem to chat with. I also met some exchange students from Japan and Korea. I think Japanese girls are pretty!!! I am so jealous. (LOL) And the Korean are funny and friendly. I learned some Korean from them, and it was interesting. I never think to learn Korean before, but now I start to feel an interest in Korean.
It is really a lot of fun to get along with people from different countries.
BTW, I started my part time job as a tutor. My stuents are around 14 to 16 years old, and they are so noisy.

Oh, and my Japanese is getting worse and worse.
I am planing to take TOEIC in April and JEPT in July. I am so nervous.

脂肪人 : during this break (0)

The new semester is coming next week, but now I am still enjoying the new year's break. The weather is awful; it is cold and raining cats and dogs all day long. So that I can't go anywhere.

Last night, I played mahjong with my parents and sister. I am not good at mohjong(麻將), so I lost money. My mom said that I received many red envelopes so it was okay to lose money to them. It was a kind of showing filial obendience.(lol)

Recently, I watched a movie, MONGA(艋舺). MONGA is a Taiwan-made film, and it exceeds AVATAR in box office in Taiwan now. It is really amazing. Attractive plot, hottest characters and sucessful promotions lead MONGA to success, I think. There are many filthy Taiwanese sentences in this movie, but they shows the power and vulgar of Taiwan. It is worth to watch.

脂肪人 : 今日は　忙しかった。I was busy today. (2)

今日は　母と　一緒に　 家を掃除しました。
家は　きれいになりました。嬉しい。
私は　疲れましたが、　晩は　本屋へ　雑誌を　買いに　いきました。
今　私は　あの雑誌を　読みます。　じゃあね～

My mom and I were cleaning our house today.
Our house is clean now, I am happy.
Though I was tired, I still went out to buy a magazine in a book store.
Now I am going to read the magazine, bye.

--------------------------
I found that if I write the entry in Japanese and then translate it into English, my English sentences are too simple and easy. And that doesn't help me to improve my English. But if I write in English at first, I am not able to translate my complicated English sentences into Japanese. The reason is that my English is sooooo much better than Japanese.(lol)

So, what could I do with the two languages on different levels at a time.　どう　したらいいですか。

Revised.（thanks to juncheng:D）

脂肪人 : I am a beginner (3)

I am new to Lang-8, so I'm still trying to make a lot of firends here. So I have to wirte many journals to give people an opportunity to get to know me. Now I am on winter break, but nothing special has happened. I don't know what to share with you guys, forgive me. I am waiting for the coming Chinese New Year, perhaps I will have something to share then.
Well, then how about I introduce myself?

I am Taiwanese, and I live in Maioli but study in Taichung. I major in English and minor in Japanese. I've been studying English for ten years, I think most Taiwanes begin learning English at around 10 years old, as I did. In addition, there are many Taiwanese who learn English in a bilingual kindergarten. I start to learn Japanese when I was a sophomore(now I am a junior), when I decided to take Japanese as my third language. All students in English department at my university must take on a third language. I think it is great to learn other languages. I took Japanese courses because I love Japanese culture. Taiwan dose get a lot of influence from Japan. My Japanese conversation teacher is from Japan, and he is the most hurmorous teacher I have ever met. He is not only a good teacher but also a great singer. Occasionally he would teach us Japanese songs and sing for us. His singing is amazing!!! Maybe later I can show a video of one of his performances to you; you guys will definitely be surprised.
My English name is Vicki, 脂肪人is my nickname. haha
I am 20 years old, and I am easygoing. Please feel free to ask me any question you have. I love making friends, especially with people from other countries, as the language barrier tends to create a humorous situations. I've never been abroad, so I think making friends with foreginers can broaden my horizons.:P
My Japanese is too poor to write such a journal like this in. If I were to attempt it, it would take an entire day, I think. I will try though, beacuse I add a lot of Japanese as friends but seldom write in Japanese, that will make them dispointed, right? And my Japanese will never improve.

Revised.

脂肪人 : Chinese New Year Is Coming!!! (2)

I am so excitied that new year is coming. On the new year's eve, we family will get reunion together to have a big meal. Last year, we had hot pot on a round table and we all cricled around the table to enjoy the meal. That was a cold day, I remember, a day was appropriate to have hot pot. These days I am wondering what we are going to have this year. Maybe I can give some advice to my mom.
Guess what we kids most expect on the new year? Red Envelopes!!! Although I am already 20, a age that should become an adult and be independant, I still will get red envelopes this time I think. The reason is that I am a student without jobs and of course payment. It is said that people who haven't got merried do not need to give red envelopes. Maybe I would be single all my life time.(lol)

These sentenses took me 30 minutes.
まだまだ　日本語を勉強しなければならないね～
頑張る！！！

脂肪人 : New friend (1)

Last semester, I applied a learning partner of foreign exchange students of OIA. Luckily, I am going to have a learning partner from main-land China. But to be honest, I am a little dispointed, because the languages between Taiwan and China are almost the same. There is no problem when we conversate. I wish I could have a partner who is Japanese or Englisg-speaking person, so that we can help each other to learn languages. That must be a lot of fun if our languages are different. But I still cherish the opportunity to have a learning partner, mayber we can learn other things form each other, right? I am looking forward.
