Today I input my Chinese name into the computer in order to find a Japanese name. Then the system produce a name ,kumiko. In Chinese, it is 久美子.I am so happy to know that my name is kumiko in Japan. But the system is boring. It doesn't show me how to spell it in Japanese.Oh ,who can help me? What do you think about the name? Are there many people called kumiko? And what it means? I am so curious about it. In China ,our parents give us when we are born. Our names can be very different from others' .Our name can have two words ,three words ,four even more words. Also ,our names inply our parents' nice expections.
"久”means "something lasts for long time"
"美" means "beauty"
"子" means "child"
So, "久美子" means " a child whose beauty lasts long
Japanese parents chose their children's names with the expectations of the meanings of the words like your country.
I have met a girl whose name was 久美子 only once.
And, I sometimes hear the name on TV.
I think it is not rare name.
But it is good one!!
「美」=美しい(utsukushii); beautiful
「子」=子ども(kodomo); child
It's a great name!
The names which end with "子” were popular among Japanese girl's names before.
久美子 was one of very popular names because it has very good meaning. Now in Japan, however, many parents give their daughters the names which end with Chinese characters except "子". Though I'm not so young, my name ends with "美".
