Ex.
For there drifted out to Soapy's ears sweet music that caught and held him transfixed against the convolutions of the iron fence.

Can someone analyse the structure of this sentence please? Why does it use "there" in the beginning of the sentence?

This sentence sounds like old-style English. It means: ..sweet music drifting out of the (place) reached Soapy's ears; it caught and held...

'There' in this context is similar to 口语的用法: There goes the bell, (the bell is ringing); there goes my week's pocket money (I'm using up all my week's pocket money on this thing). Similarly: Here comes the teacher. (the teacher is approaching).
