I read the Haiku article on wikipedia. Haiku has already been famous in a lot of foreign countries lol But I could find almost any foreign topic on the Tanka article.
Haiku has some strict literary rules besides its very short syllable regulation, but there is a lighter style of 5-7-5 called Senryu.
Haiku poets have to use historical grammar and seasonal words. But Senryu doesn't require these strict rules. Senryu is written by spoken Japanese and includes humor. There is even a contest called "Saleryman Senryu" held by an insurance company. Of course, Tanka is more freer because of additional 7-7. So you can try to create some pieces anytime!

As I wrote, I put some of my favorite pieces from NHK Haiku/Tanka programs. *Some pieces are written by old style of Japanese grammar, so if you feel something weird you don't need to worry ^^

fuyu no hosi - aogi ketsudan - seshi koto mo
---(I remembered my old memory that) I had decided which of the future direction to forward by looking up the Polaris.

jasmincha, - tamagosando wo - kago ni ire - kankanderi no - umi he doraibu
Taking a bottle of jasmine tea and a basket of egg sandwiches, let's go for a drive to the bright and sunny sea!

---Don't say about nutrition and just enjoy! You should take apples as apples, oranges as oranges.

wagahai ha - neko de aru yue - neshougatsu
---I am a Cat. So I'm sleeping during my New Year time.

buru-tasu - FA kyojin - omae mo ka?
---And thou Brutus? Another free agent moved to the Yomiuri Giants(Japanese baseball team).

Lol excellent!! It seems like Yomiuri Giants are like the New York Yankees in America. Thanks for the entry.

Thanks violetize!
Wow you already experienced haiku! cool.
I tried to fit the English syllable of I am a Cat haiku as 5-7-5! lol
Ah i forgot to remark about I am a Cat. It's Japanese famous novel written by Soseki Natsume. He used to be on Japanese ¥1000 bill.

  • Haiku is already famous in a lot of foreign countries lol But I could find hardly any foreign topics on the Tanka article. ((I'm pretty sure it has to be "on", to mean "about". I'm not sure why someone would want to find foreign topics IN an article on Tanka, lol))

  • ---Don't say about nutrition and just enjoy!
  • ---Don't talk about nutrition;((or ,)) and just enjoy! ((I think it's better this way because with "and" it's almost like it's connecting "just enjoy" with "don't". Well, I doubt anyone would assume that, but the sentence flows better this way. Also, I think a semicolon is more proper...though both that and a comma look normal to me))

>Et tu Brute?
I was pretty sure that was Latin......though I wouldn't be surprised if it would be said the same in French.
