日本のオカマ文化(2) - Japanese Gay...Fishy? Adorable?

彼女達は主婦が家事を済ませてテレビの前で一休みする、昼～夜の番組によく出ている。
主婦が彼女達に食いつくのは、「自分達と同じような女性の立場で暴れてくれるのが痛快・でも結局は男だし、女優の自慢を聞く時みたいに嫉妬しないで済む」という理由だろう。
ほとんど全ての物事を笑い飛ばせる彼女達の最大の弱さ、それは「女じゃない」という事実に他ならないと思う。

Okamas often appear on programs from the daytime to night when housewives get done with their houseworks and take a rest in front of TV. The reason why those women are interested in them may be like that : Their glorious rampage on the similar female position is so funny. And we don’t need to feel envy like when listening the actress’ boast since they are male after all.
They can laugh away almost all the matters, but what is their biggest weakness? It may be nothing but the fact that they aren’t actual women.

「どうせ世間は私の話なんて聞き流すでしょ」というスタンスだからこそ、オカマは恥や世間体を乗り越えて好きに意見を言う。政治家や社会問題をからかったり、男の弱さや女の愚かさまで笑い飛ばしてくれる。彼女らは「皆が思ってるけど言えないこと・気付かなかったこと」を代弁してくれる、便利な立場なのだ。

Okamas have stance like “the world won’t hear our opinions seriously anyway”. Because of it, they can say their opinions as they like by easily overcoming the shame and public decency.
Ridiculing politicians or social issues in public, or laugh away even male’s weakness and female’s stupidity. They are on useful position for being spokesperson who declare the things everyone felt but couldn’t say or the things everyone didn’t realize.

世間の代弁者であると同時に、他のスキルを持ったオカマが人気を集めている。歌のうまいオカマ。占いをするオカマ。映画やファッションを批評するオカマ。メイクアップアーティストとして活躍するオカマ。
さらにオカマ達は派手でうさんくさい異形を自覚しながら、上品さを重要視し、耽美主義の作家の様な文章を書いたりする。彼女達は非現実的な道化と文化人の間を自由に行き来できるトリックスターなのだ。そういった不思議な存在が、恐らく一部の視聴者にはとても魅力的なのだろう。

Okamas who are spokesperson and also have other skills are getting popular. Okama who sings so emotionally. Okama who can do the fortune-telling. Okama who criticize movies and fashions. Okama who flourishes as an makeup artist.
And they put an emphasis to be magnificent despite showing their cheesy abnormality, and write some piece like as an aestheticism author. They are the tricksters who can traverse the unrealistic pierrot and intellectual character. Such an unnatural presence might be charming to some of the viewers.
