A new way to give gifts

Everybody has the chance to give others gift in some celebrations and anniversities.
What will you choose often as a gift?
In chinese, in many celebrations such as spring festivals, wedding parties, even funerals, we often give others money. Maybe it's a custom since long long ago I think.
These days, I learned a new way to give gifts. For example, when a couple want to hold a wedding anniversity, they can go to a store and write the things they want on a paper. Then their friends will go to the same store and pay for the thing they want to give the couple.
I think it's a good way to give gifts. It's interesting and practical.
