An interesting handrail: Qunetto

Have you ever seen such a hand rail in this picture? This is called “Qunetto,” which was invented by a small Japanese company:
http://www.qunetto-japan.jp/index.php

There is a secret in this shape. This handrail is corrugated to help people climb up and down the stairs. When you climb down the stairs, you can press the handrail vertically if it is corrugated. On the other hand, when you climb up the stairs, you can grip the handrail horizontally. It is easy to grip the handrail.

This company is in Kyushu island and my city is also in Kyushu island, so the local governor adopted these handrails in the public spaces.

Very interesting. I feel like I have encountered these type of handrails before, but I could be mistaken. Do you know how new the design is?

Thank you for correcting my journal and being interested in it.

> Do you know how new the design is?

It was invented in 2001. How does it make sense?

If it's 10 years old, I think I have experienced it a few times since then, here in New York.

Really? I am glad to hear that.
I am really proud of this design!

  • This handrail is corrugated shaped so as to help people climb up and down the stairs. "Corrugated" means troughs and ridges, like ""ununu." The handrail can also be said to be "wavy," but not quite. I don't really know how to describe the shape exactly, so I just said "shaped."

  • When you climb down the stairs, you can press the handrail vertically if it is corrugated.

Another great entry! And another interesting item. I can see how useful this handrail would be for those who need extra support.

Even though the young people climb up and down the stairs, it helps a lot.

> The handrail can also be said to be "wavy,"

I think "wavy" is a suitable word for it.

Thank you for sharing an interesting information.
According to your explanation, it seems to be reasonable.
I think that it may spread in more world for the elderly.

That's a good idea. It reminds me of handrails yo see in and around showers at hotels. Of course there it is slippery so it is important that the hand rail is easy to grip. I don't think I've seen this much on staircases, but they seem like they be helpful.

You're right. I agree with you.
I think young people don't care about it seriously in handrails, but they can find it helpful in the bathrooms.
