A strange Starbucks Coffee shop

My son and I went to a high school where he wanted to get into in the end of the last year. The high school is in a city which has a long history. We visited a famous shrine near the high school after checking where it was. The shrine has a long pathway which has a lot of shops on the both sides. I found an interesting coffee shop there. It’s Starbucks Coffee. Starbucks Coffee is one of the biggest coffee chain stores in the world, but I didn’t see such a strange outlook before.
This Starbucks is on the way as the second picture. I thought the shop owner wanted to adjust it to this old way, but I don’t think it looked good.
I wonder if there another strange Starbucks Coffee is.

This shop was designed by Kengo Kuma, who is an architecture. It just opened on December 16, 2011. He wanted to merge a contemporary coffee shop into an ancient city according to an article about this new coffee shop.

This article was written in Japanese, but you can see a picture inside the shop.

It seems to consist of a design using a traditional wooden frame structure, but I'm weak in such a design because I’m aichmophobia.

Thank you for the comment.
That's the point.
I like design things because of my job, but I don't like this very much.

It almost looks like it is still under construction with all of those pieces of wood sticking out. I don't think I've ever seen a Starbucks like that.

Well written!

Yes, we all expect a Starbuck's to be the same as all the others -- like McDonald's. I have been to the original Starbuck's in Seattle, and find it is somewhat larger than most others. Otherwise, it's clearly a Starbuck's.

I think the Starbuck's you show is a curious change from most others.

Thank you for your many corrections.
They are always helpful to learn writing in English.

Thank you for sharing it. I like Starbuck's coffee, but I hardly go there because of the cost problem. It is a little expensive. I always make coffee by myself at home.

I know what you mean. There are two Starbuck's up here int he mountains, but I rarely go there. I make coffee at home, too, and find it is expensive enough.

I don't know what they sell in Japan, but Starbuck's in the USA are beginning to sell wine and beer, too. They a already sell pastries and sandwiches, as well as breakfast, here.

I hardly see any alcohol in Japan, but you can some snacks such as sandwitches and cookies at shops.
However, I read an article about Starbucks in the US and it said that you can read a digital newspaper if you bring iPhones and Kindles with you. It is a good service, I think, though the service hasn't started in Japan yet.

Yes, Starbuck's has long had WiFi service. At first you had to pay for it, then when other shops offered WiFi for free, Starbuck's followed.

McDonald's also has free WiFi.

In Japan, You can use free WiFi in both McDonald and Starbuck too. It is very useful!

Thank you for sharing it.
