Hi everyone, Rhys here.
Thanks in advance for reading my journal.
I've been studying Chinese for about 1 month by myself.
I'd like to try writing some sample sentences.(Very, very simple ones though.)

Okay, here we go!

我吃了早饭。 (I ate breakfast.)
我的哥哥想去北京。 (My older brother wants to go to Beijing.)
请给我打电话。(Please give me a call.)
他喜欢吃日本菜。(He likes to eat Japanese food.)
她不想喝啤酒。(She doesn't want to drink beer.)
我和我的妹妹去了法国。(My younger sister and I went to France.)
你是哪国人? (Where are you from?)
我想喝茶,但是我不想喝可乐。(I want to drink tea, but I don't want to drink coca-cola.)

I hope it makes sense!

谢谢你们!
再见!

Rhys

Hi Rhyski-san,

Are you learning Mandarin as well by now?
Cool man!No mistakes found in your entries :)

Actually the written characters is nearly the same between Cantonese and Mandarin so perhaps I can help you with it :)

P.S.: But my spoken Mandarin really sucks....haha

My answer:我吃早饭了。(“了”后置更符合语言习惯)
我哥哥想去北京。(“的”可以省略)
请给我打电话。他喜欢吃日本菜。她不喜欢喝啤酒。我和我妹妹去了法国。你是哪国人?我想喝茶,但是我不想喝可乐(These sentences are very well!)

Hi, Rhysiki-san

Isn't it difficult to study 2 languages?
I'd tried to study French, too last year. However, I stop it, now.
I like to study French, too someday.

Hanging there!! ^^

Hi man,

Ya,my spoken mandarin really sucks although I'm able to listen to it because I watch those taiwanese drama quite often.
Unless you wanna learn Cantonese, what I can help you with is the written part of Mandarin.

Hello ANNE-san

I agree! It is really hard to study two langauges. But luckily, I have a lot of free time this summer so I can spend a few hours each day studying both Chinese and Japanese. However, when I go back to my busy school schedule in September, it will be a lot harder to study both.

Oh really you studied French? Yes, you should study it again whe you have time^^ It's a nice language!

Thank you ANNE-san!

Hi Rhyski,

I think everyone has given you decent responses so here I'm giving you some ideas to speak the sentences in a more colloquial way :) also, in Taiwanese way ;) (I'm living in Taiwan though I'm Malaysian)

我吃過早餐了。 (You can also use "早餐")

我哥想去北京。 (“我哥”sounds more intimate and colloquial)

請打(個)電話給我。(the other way to write this)

她不想喝酒。(most of the time we say 喝酒 instead of 喝啤酒,although 啤酒is indeed 'beer';it's like when you say "Let's go for a drink" and we know that what the "drink" is ;) )

我和我妹去了法国。(“我妹” sounds the same as 我哥)

我想喝茶,但我不想喝可乐。(you can just say 但 instead of 但是 in a more colloquial way)

Oops..I just found that I was writing some words in traditional Chinese. Sorry about that. I'm translating them into simplified Chinese. (I write simplied C in Malaysia, traditional C in Taiwan lol )

我吃過早餐了 ---> 我吃过早餐了

請打(個)電話給我 ---> 请打(个)电话给我

Thanks so much Yuffie chan!
Actually, one of my best friends is Taiwanese so maybe it would be good for me to learn both S and T characters! (So I can talk with him over msn etc.) However, my university course will be taught with S characters I believe...
