An integrated writing of TOEFL

The lecture is maily discussing the effects of working a four-day week on economy, companies and employees by comparing the benefits of working four-day week with working five-day week, challenging what are stated in the reading passage that 4-day work is better for companies and employees.

First, the reading passsage claims that working four-day week will increase the profits of companies because employees will more rested and alert when they get enough time to rest, thus they will make fewer costly error. In contrast, The speaker believes that the companies will cost more money if the employees work four-day week, because if the companies want to the work to be finished they must hire more staff or ask employees to work overtime, both options are bad because companies must spend money on new worker tainings if they hiring new staffs and provide medical benifits to new staffs or their present employees will unplesent when they are working overtime. So the lecture totolly disagree with the view made in the reading.

Second, according to the reading passage, working four-day week is good for the economy because companies will hire more staffs to finish the work, it can reduce the unemployment rates. On the contrary, the speaker demonstrated an idea that working four-day week has no effect on economy because employees who work four-day week maybe lose their jobs first during economy downturn because companies prefer the employees who work five-day week.

Finally, the lecture illustrates that the quality of employees lives will reduce if they work four-day week becasue of the decrease of their job's ability and the losing of their chances to advance careers. While the reading passage states that working four-day week will improve the quality of lives of employees because they will have more time to stay with families, to pursue private interests and to enjoying leisure activities.
