Sounds yummy to me too. My gradmother was from Karelia, that is a geographical area between Russia and Finland. There is much common in traditions, one is baking of patties, pastries and bread. Especially they bake little pastries that Russians call "калитки". My grandmother too used to bake patties with cabbage, also with carrots, potato and turnip. And we children used to enjoy them very much. In the house my grandparents had a huge oven made of tiles. There she used to bake her pastries and breads. The owen was so huge that my grandfather could climb on top of it and have a nap there with the cat while grandma was baking :)
Have you ever seen such huge country owens?

Actually not whole Karelia is part of Russia. Karelia is larger than the current Karelian Republic that is part of Russia. Also some areas around St Petersburg (Karelian isthmus) were part of Karelia, my grandparents were living there until mid 1940's when Finland lost that area to the USSR. But there still is some Karelia left in Finland too :) A good map about the names and article about the history of Karelia is on wikipedia http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%98%D1%81%D1%82%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B8%D1%8F_%D0%9A%D0%B0%D1%80%D0%B5%D0%BB%D0%B8%D0%B8

Once I read traditional Russian fairy tales, including those modified by L.N. Tolstoy, and in many of them there was a little devil living behind the oven and he made nasty practical jokes to people ;D

I would love to have such a huge oven in my house here in Australia, especially in the winter.
