Hmm, I had a cold. I have to sleep. However I will write a result briefly only in English. I managed to read the first chapter of the big book which I borrowed 8 days ago. The first chapter has45 pages. There were over 100or 300 words which I have not seen/learned. So I just only have read it through with my voice. However I was able to catch the story urm half or more. The story was in early 1900's. In those days marriage was not a romance, just a transaction. People in China didn't believe anything because its history was war ans war ans war. The main character was the grandmother of the writer. She was forced to marry a General as a concubine. Women were also forced to bend their legs from a child to an adult because woman's leg should be small. It seemed that they had to feel the strict pains without rational reason. The General had many concubines. His wife and his concubines lived a large mansion in the capital. Luckily the grandmother was allowed to live in another house in another town. She had not to endure the bad manner of his wife and other concubines. But finally she was pregnant. Her baby had a destiny to remote her mother to the General. Once she and her baby were forced to go to the General's house. Her condition was sever. Mainly because her foot, in 三寸金蓮, didn't help her to run away easily. But she never give up growing her baby by herself. Then finally she successfully run away from the mansion. The General seemed to fond out her talent. So when he die he left a word that he would give her freedom. So his wife and other concubines who wanted to sell her to other guys finally gave up her and her child.
Hmm, I will stop it now, that is all for today. Thank you for reading.

Hmm, I am having a cold.
However, I will try to write the result of my reading briefly only in English.
I managed to finish reading the first chapter of the big book which I borrowed 8 days ago.
There are over 100or 300 words which I have not seen/learned yet.
So I just (or only) have read it aloud.
However I was able to catch the story urm?? half or more.
The story was set in the early 1900s.
In those days marriage was not a romance, but merely a transaction.
People in China didn't believe anything because wars were in their throughout history.
Women were also forced to bend their legs since they were children because woman's leg should be small.
It seemed that to feel strict pains without rational reason were compulsory for women at that moment.
His wife and his concubines lived in a large mansion in the capital.
She didn't have to endure any bad treatments from the General's wife and other concubines.
But finally then she was pregnant. "but finally" has a good implication, but the above lines shown the opposite, so i changed it.
The new baby born caused the mother to return to the main house of the General.
Her condition was severe.
Mainly because her foot, in 三寸金蓮, couldn't help her to run away easily.
But she never give up raising her baby by herself.
Then finally she successfully ran away from the mansion.
(1) The General seemed to fond of her talent. OR (2) The General seemed to find out her wish. i don't know which one you wanted to say, but maybe the 2nd one is closer to above lines.
So when he died (or passed away), he left a word that he would give her freedom.
The General's last will made his wife and other concubines who wanted to sell her to other guys, finally gave up.
Hmm, I will stop here, and that is all for today.
Luckily, that tradition has been banned long time ago ^^
I have watched such a Chinese movie some times. So I easily imagine what 三寸金蓮 means. But I didn't know it well. So I was surprised with the old custom again.
To tell the truth, I hardly understood what was read in detail because there were many unknown words.
By the way, thank you for your corrections. I am thankful.
三寸金蓮, I completed the first chapter was completed ( A "big" book, Wild Swans )
Hmm, I have a cold.
However I will briefly write only in English about the book I borrowed from the library.
There were over 100or 300 words which I had not seen/learned before. (or "There were about 100 to 300..." or "There were maybe 300 or more...")
However I was able to catch half or more of the story urm half or more.
In those days marriage was not related to romance, but just a (business) transaction.
Women were also forced to bind their feet from childhood through adulthood because a woman's feet should be small.
It seemed that they had to feel the strict pains without any rational reason.
Her baby was destined to return her mother to the General. (かな?)
Her bound feet prevented her from running away easily.
The General seemed to understand her hardships.
So when he die he left a word that he would give her (her) freedom.
So his wife and the other concubines who wanted to sell her to other guys finally gave up and let her and her child go free.
Now no more 三寸金蓮,
most people have big feets..^^
@Appi Thank you too. I also agree that such a painful custom is banned nowadays. Only one hundred years ago women suffered from such pains although his wife and many other concubines were terribleだったんじゃないかな。
It seemed as if they had to endure great pain for no rational reason.
But she never gave up raising the baby by herself. (since you write in past tense, it should be "gave up" not give up).
Seems like quite an intense first chapter of the book!
