Since types of food you mentioned aren't proper nouns (names of poeple, places, etc), we cannot use capital letters. Also, when you use parentheses "(...)", they are like their own word, so you have to include a space.
When I went to China 12 years ago, I tried eat some street food.
China is a name of a country, so we have to use a capital letter.
Also, remember that "go" always has "to" after it, except for "home" and "downtown":
I went to the store.
I went to my friend's house.
I went home. (no "to")
I went downtown. (no "to").
There were many fried insects.
Whenever you use "many", the noun that follows will have "-s".
I though about how the scorpion has poison in its tail.
Also I tried to eat fermented tofu.
With try, you have two choices: "try + to + verb" or "try + verb+ing"
I tried to eat fish.
I tried eating fish.
Finally I couldn't ate tofu because it was stinking smell and taI ended up not being able to eat the fermented tofu because of its bad smell and taste.

I started to think about Mexican street food when you wrote about this. I remember they had ice cream with chili powder on top. I thought that was weird because ice cream is for cooling off, but chili makes you feel hot. :) Anyway, they also had tacos that were really delicious.
