The Trial of Cicadas(セミの試練)

Yesterday, I saw a very pitiful cicada.
As you all know, the cicadas spend almost all their lives under the ground.
When they change into the imago, they crawl out from the ground, and hold on branch or something.
After their dramatic transformation, they cast off skin and fly away to the giant sky.
Dramatic transformation also seems to the time when the crisis comes over.
If they can't do adult emergence well, they can't fly and leave offspring too.
After the cicada's larva casts off skin holding on branch, it stretches its wings with the assistance of gravity.
If it falls down or something happens at that time, the wings can't be stretched.
I think the cicada I saw yesterday was that one.
There was a cast-off skin near it.
Trying to think about it from those things, the adult emergence might begin
before they reached the appropriate place.
It was still alive, but it wouldn't be able to fly because its wings didn't be stretched enough.
I had a sympathy for it, but I wasn't able to do anything.
I think cicadas are only cicadas that are singing loudly when the summer comes.
I've known there are many trials even on the cicada's living.
Thank you for reading!

The Trials and Tribulations of Cicadas(セミの試練)
Note: "trials and tribulations" is a set phrase and refers to troubles and events that cause suffering
- for example, "the trials and tribulations of marriage"
Yesterday, I saw a very pitiful/pitiable cicada.
Note: "pitiable" = "Arousing or deserving of pity or compassion"
As you probably know, the cicadas spend almost all their lives underground.
When they change into an imago, they emerge from the ground, and cling onto a branch or something similar.
After their metamorphosis, they cast off their shell and fly up into the heavens.
It is at this time of dramatic transformation that a crisis can occur.
If they can't complete the metamorphosis properly, they can't fly or procreate.
After the cicada's larva emerges from its shell, it stretches its wings with the assistance of gravity.
If it falls down or some other untoward thing happens at this time, the wings cannot be extended.
I think this is what had happened to the cicada I saw yesterday.
There was a cast-off shell near it.
Perhaps, in this case, the metamorphosis had begun
before it reached an appropriate place.
It was still alive, but it wouldn't have been able to fly because its wings had not been properly/sufficiently extended.
I felt sympathy for it, but I wasn't able to do anything.
In the past, I have only thought of cicadas as being those creatures which sing/drone loudly with the coming/arrival of summer
but I realize now that there are many hardships even in the life of a cicada.
I love the look of cicadas and their shells and I miss their summer droning (where I live now there are no cicadas). Their life has always seemed a little tragic to me. So long underground and only a brief time in the sun.
Cicadas can live only for a short time after the metamorphosis, so I felt sympathy all the more for the reason.
