Japanese Prime Minister Noda used the word "近い将来" at first when he asked about the timing of a dissolution.
However, he changed it to the word "近いうち", against the criticism that it was too late for the timing.
Both "近い将来" and "近いうち" mean "in the near future" in English.
It is a subtle issue that which is the nearer word.
I get a feeling that the second word is nearer than the first word which includes 将来.
There is a similar word "そのうち".
I feel that it is farther than "近い将来", furthermore it is more ambiguous.
Just for reference, it is possible to express "遠い将来", but you can't "遠いうち".
