There are tremendous numbers of family name in Japan.
Some say that the number of family name is about 300,000.
But the truth is not certain.
My family name is "Sasaki" in this connection.
It is popular in Japan.
But there are many family names that I can't even read.
I pick up some funny examples from the net.
九(ichijiku)
We can't read it "ku".
This is one kanji character, so we read it "ichiji(one kanji) ku".
小鳥遊(takanashi)
This is a little bit difficult.
If there is a fawk("taka" in Japanese) around small birds(小鳥),
they don't play(遊) safely.
Therefore if they(小鳥) play(遊), there isn't a fawk(taka).
We can say "there isn't a fawk" like "taka nashi" in Japanese.
部田(torita)
This isn't "buta".
The meaning of "buta" is a pig.
You must not say "buta san" to a young lady who's name is 部田.
If you say that, she must angry.
月見里(yamanashi)
The meaning of 月見里 is "the village where can see the moon".
You can see well the moon, if there isn't the mountain.
So 月見里 is "yama nashi".
