akr : top-post (0)

Today, I understand a purpose of top-post.

The top-post is a style of e-mail that inserts new text at the top of the mail and quotes the whole previous mail follows.

This style makes a mail difficult to understand because the correspondences of the new sentences and the parts of previous mail are not clear.

However, this style is good for tell the whole communication to another person.
Since the last mail contains whole communication in the reverse chronological order,
forwarding the last mail is enough to tell the whole communication.

This benefit is important if no public ML archive.

Assume a business person A communicates to another business person B.
Since this is usual (private) e-mail communication, there is no public ML archive.
After some communication, they noticed that yet another business person C should join to the communication.
If top-post style is used, it is easy to send the communication up to the point because forwarding the last mail is enough.
But it is difficult if no single mail which contains whole communication.

Of course, this benefit is useless for the situation that good public ML archive is available.
The ML archive makes all communications traceable for anyone.
So anyone can read a former communication (and join to the communication).
I investigated category feature of RSS.

It seems RSS itself has the feature.
RSS 1.0 can use dc:subject.
RSS 2.0 has "category" element.

However Google Reader has no feature for filtering RSS items using the category

Recently I implemented RSS feed generation for chkbuild.

I use Google Reader to read the RSS feed.

Google Reader uses an bot named Feedfetcher-Google which crawls the feed roughly once per hour.

Is there a way to inform the bot that the feed is updated?

I searched ping server for google and I found only for blogsearch.google.com.
But blogsearch.google.com seems only update Google Blog Search.

http://www.google.com/help/blogsearch/pinging_API.html

akr : server rental (0)

Today, I was surprised by a signboard at a small shop in a station building.
The board describes "server rental", "eternally free", "internet ranking No.1", etc.

As far as I know, computer server rental business is appropriate for such small shop.

After the surprise, I saw the shop more carefully.
Then I understand that the shop rentals water servers, not computer servers.

akr : Lie in a bug report. (0)

The story of the previous post and [ruby-dev:42057] has a lie.

Actually I found the problem when I tested a RSS generated by chkbuild (my continuous integration system) using the RDF validator.

But I reported the problem using a sample script in the tutorial and
did not mention chkbuild.

This removes the possibility which the problem is caused by my software (chkbuild).

So it is clear that the problem is caused by the tutorial, the rss library or the validator provided by W3C.
The tutorial is written by the author of the rss library.
W3C is an authority of Web standards,
So it is almost certain the author is responsible for the problem.

akr : RSS 1.0 generated by rss library is not valid according to W3C RDF Validator (0)

I generated small RSS1.0 using an example in the tutorial for rss library comes with ruby.

The tutorial: http://www.cozmixng.org/~rwiki/?cmd=view;name=RSS+Parser%3A%3ATutorial.ja

I tested it using W3C RDF Validator http://www.w3.org/RDF/Validator/ .

I wondered that the validator find a problem.

So I reported it to ruby-dev.
[ruby-dev:42057]
