One of my Korean friends started his military service this summer of all others, not knowing such tensions would mount on the Korean Peninsula. I got to know him here on Lang-8 and I met him and his friends during my two-week stay in Seoul in March. I feel a pang by imagining his and his family's feelings.

  • One of my Korean friends started his military service this summer, of all summers, not knowing such tensions would mount on the Korean Peninsula. By setting this off, it makes the sentence easier to read. ^^

  • I got to know him here on Lang-8 and I met him and his friends during my two-week stay in Seoul back in March. This is just a suggestion, because it helps spread "in" further apart and helps it sound more natural. You could also say, "stay in Seoul last March" and take the second "in" out. ^^

I heard about this, too! It's all over the news since the US is gearing up to help South Korea out. Maybe I'm totally ignorant, but I don't understand why North Korea is attacking South Korea. Aren't they the same people? I mean, they have the same ancestors and surely up to some point, the same history? The same language? It's really almost like a civil war.
