Yuri : Pls Use Difficult Words For Me (12)

Recently I'm in the mood to enhance my English proficiency specifically in [my, the, none] listening comprehension ability and speed-reading technique(,) and I decided to take an English test called TOEIC that are mainly taken in Japan and Korea. I don't know enough about its history but I've heard that some Japanese companies requested EST, the American institute making SAT, GRE or GMAT for the purpose of improving Japanese business people's English skills. However it mainly includes only reading and listening sections and writing and speaking are optional so most test takers just get knacks for the former performances.

I usually don't understand English spoken in normal speed because I don't have enough opportunities to listen to native speakers English. I'm not a movie person or a book lover so I speak English mainly for keeping touch with Asian friends who I met in real or who I talk frequently on the internet.

Now I need to expose myself to more difficult English such as news or speedy-talks and I also have to build wider vocabulary. I'm reluctant as I don't need it so much but I should view this opportunity as a good chance to improve my English. Agh...(Is this a voice expression for frustration?)

Thus! Can you use terms and idiomatic phrases that non-native speaker of English usually don't know BUT it may generally appear in English proficiency tests. I'm sure that I can memorize them better when I learn from you guys rather than [prep-, cram- (?)] workbooks. Thanks! I should repay you when you take a Japanese proficiency test!

Yuri : Funny Picture (10)

A friend found a funny picture so I wanna share it with you [as well, too?].

I titled[entitled?] it as "I was reborn and I came back to this world but no one respects me and they make fun of me instead." Does [this, it, that?] work as a joke? I want to say it humorously. Do you have any ideas?

Yuri : ❤FREE LESSON❤　Natural Japanese ❤My Voice and Singing❤　/

Inspired by Shin's entry, I'm writing this to support Japanese learners [in, of, from?] all over the world. I sometimes notice that Japanese learners don' know enough natural expressions (even?) though their Japanese is quite good. A tip I can provide is 'connecting words' such as "Uh...Erm...Um...", "Well...", "Let me see", and so on.

This is what I recorded on April 24 for a Chinese friend in Shanghai.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Chinese Youtube "Youku"
*In China, Youtube, Facebook, Google, Twitter are all prohibited.

http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMjYxNTYyMzky.html
--------------------------------------------------------------
[Script] I uploaded this on Chinese Facebook

<Simple English> Do you know how to edit Google Site? If so, can you help me make a supportive website into a multi-language one for survivors. Faster and more than I expected, my friends and Lang-8 users has been sending me their helpful translation[s?] for non-Japanese people living in East-Japan, hit by this time's serious quakes. For survivors, we can do something here, now and with our current skills. Let's use our skills and networks we gained here on Lang-8!

Hi everybody. How's it going? Recently, I use another website to keep in touch with my good friends because that site is easier to show many pictures I take for introducing my life in Kyoto. However, I hope I can keep in touch with you guys, so I'm going to send you my contact information if you like.

I like Lang-8 and I'd like to keep on contributing to this service especially because it allowed me to get to know nice people and to gain a number of things with them in terms of language-exchange, cultural peer-learning, and so on and on. Sometimes, I'll drop by Lang-8 though it wouldn't be often, so don't hesitate to leave a message regardless of your/my long-in frequency. Keep in touch!

Sorry about the last dark entry and thanks for your comments, messages and e-mail which cheered me up. I appreciate you.

'Thanks to' the Taiwanese 'L', I can feel other people's nice personalities better than before! Since yesterday, I've been in Cambodia and I've been surrounded by friendly Cambodian and non-Cambodian people. With them, I've been enjoying Cambodian food, sight seeing, and talk[s?] with[to?] other people, such as travelers, residents, and accommodation staffs. I learned some basic phrases in Cambodian language, Kumer.

When I come back to Kyoto, I'm going to upload some pictures of people's big smiles here in Cambodia!

Yuri : ◆Insulting Phrases in JP /

A Taiwanese person, let's call him 'L', sent me such messages! I visited him in Taiwan on the way to South East Asia, specifically, Cambodia and Vietnam. However, I shouldn't have done so... He seems psychologically sick...personality disorder? I know that he is not mature enough and often selfish like a 2-year-old baby, but I kept on touch with him by seeing his bright sides. However, now I don't think I've done a good choice... I'm going to show you a piece of his horrible sides. You may learn some useful phrases to insult other people in Japanese.

<2010年12月17日11:41>

-----------その数日前（泣き叫ばれた日）----------------------
<2010年12月14日13:47>

One of my Korean friends started his military service this summer of all others, not knowing such tensions would mount on the Korean Peninsula. I got to know him here on Lang-8 and I met him and his friends during my two-week stay in Seoul in March. I feel a pang by imagining his and his family's feelings.

Ironically, I couldn't go out to see [my/the?] dentist today because of intense pain [on/in?] my gum. It's very strange that one cancels a dentist's appointment because of a toothache.

What is worse is that my favorite Sumo wrestler, Hakuho, lost today. Sumo is traditional Japanese wrestling and I'm a fan of it. Hakuho was about to mark the best record in the long history of Sumo world in Japan. I'm so shocked and disappointed.

Yuri : Do U know "Love Is Blue"?　[ENG/

Like the famous lyrics, "Blue, blue. My world is blue" because of the toothache I mentioned yesterday. It hurts so bad. My lymph [glands/nods?] has swelled and I [have/need?] to keep on icing my lower right jaw and neck all the day in order to reduce pain and inflammation.

However, I think I have some talent[s?] to enjoy my life in a certain [way/manner]. I'm icing my head with a bottle of ice-cold sparkling wine. Not a Moët & Chandon, though. Do you know why I chose sparkling wine rather than ice? The answer is

simply because I don't have ice in the freezer.

Oh, hell! Who is the girl in the following video? Vicky? I don't know. She's singing in French, wearing [a?] Chinese (or Vietnamese) dress, and dancing in an eccentric style. In addition, the skirt part is too short and I can tell that her black tights are 70 denier thick (1:08-1:24). Whatever. This uncool taste makes my world even more blue. Be cool and cool down pain[s?] on my head!

Vicky Leandros "L'amour est bleu (Love is blue)"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPMoHcYhwwI

Wow! Kuwata Keisuke is also singing it! Looks great!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPbULSXRXIg

Any good translation(s) for the Japanese phrases above?

Yuri : Not Pyorrhea　-Cheer Me UP- (2)

I've been suffering from intense [a/the/none] toothache. More specifically, [my/the/none?] right gum in [my/the?] lower jaw extraordinarily hurts. It's not pyorrhea but was because of the Panasonic's sonic toothbrush I bought the day before yesterday. The brush itself was totally fine, however I was so excited [at/with?] it that I left it in my mouth, moving almost an hour or so to massage my gums. As a result, last morning, my low-right gum hurt as seriously as I've never experienced. I've been feeling pretty down since yesterday and my body has also been weak.

Even this afternoon, the pain had not gone away enough though it was getting better. So, this evening, I consulted a dentist close to my apartment, and I received pain pills and special mouthwash. Only I have to do now is to go to the bathroom to gargle. However...however...I feel really languid. Please cheer me up. Please...

Yuri : Let's empower people around us! (0)

Recently I'm interested in how much I can contribute to the society I belong to, and every weekend I participate in events or activities held here in Kyoto. Last weekend, I went to mountains with old people, like more than 65 years old. One of them told me that getting older and older is feeling more and more solitude. It was a long day which made me think of the old.

This week, I've been thinking what I can do for them. I'm not a nurse or [nor?] a caregiver, but I can hear and talk with them, and in my opinion, talking with someone keep you from solitude. Internet and cell phones are very helpful because they allow you to find efficiently someone similar to you in terms of tastes, hobbies and so on. However the old [people?] would feel that computers are difficult to use. How can I connect the old and the young? The young would also learn a lot from the old because longer you live a life, wiser [cleverer?] you become. I like this kind of win-win relationship, in other words, give-and- "given" relationship.

Oh, I just noticed that I hadn't given you five-star marks for your corrections.

Acerola Exercise -Full Version-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvtId2SpTcc

Yuri : Addicting Japanese Songs (1)

Various Japanese TV advertisements influence audiences by their original songs. In my opinion, addicting music are more effective than catchy phrases in terms of long-term memory. We sometimes or often remember music(s?) even if/though(?) we can't recall the lyrics. The following ad jingle is remarkably well-known. Both the girl, Nozomi Suzuki, and the guy, Takeru Sato, are popular among young Japanese people. The last [other?] person, Naomi, is also famous. Now check it out and master the dance!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_z1Icyu5gI&feature=channel

Here in Kyoto, I've been seeing [I've seen?] a number of travelers coming from all over the world. They visit famous temples, walk around nice old areas and enjoy authentic Japanese food. However, I'm sure that some of them start wondering, "What Kyoto people do everyday here in such a typical Japanese city? Do they also visit temples at weekend?" So now I'd like to illustrate an example.

Yesterday on Friday, a large electronics retail store opened in Kyoto. It's called "Yodobashi Camera/ヨドバシカメラ." Approximately 2000 people was lining up before its [open/opening?] time. Look the attached picture below! (I bet you already glanced it before this direction though...)

Yodobashi Song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzy_NI7lhUM&p=E182999183A70FB0&playnext=1&index=65

Yuri : Do U know BRIDGESTONE ? (4)

Gosh! I called heaven to witness that I would come here again [on?] the next day, but one [a?] week already passed away [passed by?] after my last entry. Without any significant pressure, I can write [in?] English or a couple of other foreign languages on other websites but not here. Because I can't help feeling that my writing should be good and searching unaccustomed words to practice them.

Also with regards to writing, I think I'm a careful person with a character "isibasi wo tataite wataru（石橋を叩いて渡る). It [this?] refers to walk on a strong stone-bridge after tapping it carefully, being unnecessaly afraid that it would [might?] break. If you're interested in puns, you can also say something like "Isibasi-san wa tataki masen! Because Isibasi is also well-known last name in Japan. In fact, a Japanese company, BRIDGESTONE, was founded by an Isibasi-san. So it's called "Bridge-Stone."

Oh coincidently BRIDGESTONE is also a tire manufacturer like Michelin. I successfully made lunch reservation at Kikunoi (菊乃井), one of the three-star Japanese restaurant in Kyoto. Yatta! I did it like my favorite Hiro Nakamura in HEROES.

Yuri : Michelin Guide Kyoto Osaka Kobe 2011 (3)

Last week, "Michelin Guide Kyoto Osaka Kobe 2011" was released and just two days before its release for sale, name[s?] of newcomer restaurants with stars were announced on TV in Kyoto where I live [in?]. Last year, "Michelin Guide Kyoto Osaka" was published for the first time, and many Japanese people, especially those who work[ed?] in the field of Japanese cuisine, were curious how this French company would judge Japanese traditional restaurants. For them like for Japanese people, are Kiccho (吉兆) and Kikunoi (菊乃井) authoritatives restaurants? Or have these restaurants just been wearing The Emperor's New Clothes?

(To Be Continued)

http://www.youtube.com/user/MichelinJapan#p/u/4/91aab-DT9EA

[Script (0:33-0:38)]
