Rokkasyo reprocessing plant is a nuclear reprocessing plant with an annual capacity of 800 tons of uranium or 8 tons of plutonium, owned by Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited, located in the village of Rokkasho in northeast Aomori Prefecture, Japan.

Where is Rokkasho?

According to the sources, Rokkasho plant faces quake risk just like all other nuclear facilities in Japan. The plant holds roughly 3,000 tons of spent nuclear fuel collected from 54 reactors in Japan, and located in an area, the size of California.
The 3,000 tons of highly radioactive used nuclear fuel stored in Rokkasho, could overheat and catch fire if the cooling systems fail. In the worst case, radiation contamination could cover the whole of northern hemisphere.

"Save Our Earth" Message for Rokkasho

Rokkasho reprocessing plant is scheduled to begin full scale operations in 2012. The expected annual radioactive materials emitted from the plant is 330,000 TBq, This is almost half of the total emissions of Fukushima nuclear power plant accident!
(Currently reported total emissions are 770,000 TBq in Fukushima accident.)
If Rokkasho plant fully operates, it contaminates the earth continuously. People have to eat contaminated food everyday. Many deformed children may be born and the average life expectancy may become short.
Somehow the huge amount of radioactive contamination from a reprocessing plant is legal in Japan. Most of Japanese people don’t know it.
