Merry Christmas!
It is a season we eat a lot of sweets :) I have a sweet tooth. I have liked sweets since I was in Japan. But I think Japanese sweets are not as sweet and delicate as American ones. That's why I did not like them so much when I came to the US. But now, I got completely used to them and I think they taste good. Some Japanese sweets are just not good enough for me.
But I still feel weird cakes decorated with red, yellow and blue frost. Even though I enjoy looking at them, they are not like things for eating... All of my friends who visited the US took pictures of the frost cakes in a show window. I have never seen Japanese people eat them.
...I can eat them. I became a "super" sweet tooth.

  • It is a season we eat a lot of sweets :) I have a sweet tooth.
  • It's the season where we eat a lot of sweets :) I have a sweet tooth.

  • I have liked sweets since I was in Japan.
  • I have always liked sweets, even when I was in Japan. (just a suggestion to sound more natural to me)

  • But I think Japanese sweets are not as sweet and delicate as American ones.
  • But I think Japanese sweets are not as sweet and delicate as American ones. this is totally fine grammatically, but it makes it sound like Japanese sweets are not as good as American ones, which is also fine, but which makes it hard to understand the meaning of the next sentence.... hmm... maybe it'd be better to say something like 'But I think American sweets are much much sweeter than Japanese ones, and that's why when I first came to the U.S. I didn't like them that much.'

  • Some Japanese sweets are just not good enough for me.
  • Now, some Japanese sweets are just not good enough for me (anymore).

  • But I still feel weird cakes decorated with red, yellow and blue frost.
  • But I still feel weird about cakes decorated with red, yellow and blue frosting.

  • Even though I enjoy looking at them, they are not like things for eating...
  • this sentence made me laugh :) :)

  • All of my friends who visited the US took pictures of the frost cakes in a show window.

  • I have never seen Japanese people eat them.
  • But I have never seen Japanese people actually eat them.

I loooooooooooooooooooooove those super sweet cakes with toooons of frosting on them. :) I"m so glad you've come to appreciate them too, lol.

Speaking of sweets, I tried monaka for the first time the other day - do you like it? It's good and really sweet, isn't it? What Japanese sweets do you like?

p.s. you should write another post about sweets. mmmmm, maybe donuts or pies this time, lol. :) (写真付きにしてね!笑)

Thanks, Amy!

You love those sweet cakes? You are really American :) I still chose a less frosting one after cutting the cake into pieces. I need a little more experience, lol.

I like monaka! I like みずようかん, おはぎ、大福、栗のまんじゅう... everything...lol.

Sure, I will write another post about sweets!

I see you work at UofM. I actually live in Michigan so I hope you're getting some of the local terms for things like pop instead of soda. If you have a question about something like that feel free to ask me.

Thanks stevedem,
You live in Michigan? I like Michigan! It's beautiful.
I think Michigan English is pretty close to standard English. So it's good for me to learn English here.
I might ask you questions sometime. Thank you.
