(A) Please tell me the exact time when the next train will come.
(B) Please tell me the correct time when the next train will come.
(C) Please tell me the right time when the next train will come.

I think (A) and (B) are correct, but I'm not certain whether (C) is.
I'd appreciate your opinions!

  • (A) Please tell me the exact time when the next train will come.
  • (A) Please tell me when the next train is scheduled to arrive. [The word "scheduled" makes it clear that you want the exact time. Your sentence is correct, but sounds rude-- it sounds as if you are assuming that the other person would give you some sloppy approximation if you didn't specify "exact". More polite alternative: "Excuse me, but do you know when the next train is scheduled to arrive?"]

  • (B) Please tell me the correct time when the next train will come.
  • (B) Please tell me the correct time when the next train will come. [Unnatural.]

  • (C) Please tell me the right time when the next train will come.
  • (C) Please tell me the right time when the next train will come. [Unnatural.]

Neither "correct time" nor "right time" means the same thing as "exact time." "Exact time" is indeed what you want in this situation, but asking for it directly the way you did is awkward.

"Correct time" is only used to mean "exact time" when it is what you are asking for-- "Do you happen to have the correct time?" This is somewhat awkward, too, since it suggests that you think the person has a timepiece which may be inaccurate.

"Right time" usually means "appropriate time (to do something)."
"I don't think this is the right time to ask the boss for a raise. He's been flying into a rage at the drop of a hat all morning."
