Nathan Yoo : the terrible sandstorm (0)

I just watched a TV program studying the original causes of sandstorm in China.
Do you know the sandstorm? Especially in China, when it comes to spring season,
there are always several times of sandstorm in the North China, which are so terrible to
influence the people's normal life and pollute the environment. In the TV program,
CCTV's correpondences make some visits to environmental experts or professionals to
look for the real reasons of huge sandstorm which happened several days before.
They even went to Inner Mongolia Automonous Region to do interviews and research, where
they found many coal mines being exploited excessively without any supervision and under any
control. Therefore, these human activities destroy the local ecological environment and caused more severe
desertification. As long as wind come from the deeper inland, a lot of sand and small particles
will be rolled up and mixed into the wind, so the sandstorm begins to form and continues to intensify gradually.
When it comes to Beijing City, it has become a huge sandstorm. In the storm, only in a short distance people can
see the objects clearly. How terrible it is! I heard many countries nearby have been influenced by the sandstorm of this year.
Especially in the 21st century, the sandstorm seems to become more fierce and more frequent than the last century.
I think people should be aware of the human activities' influence to the natural environments , and then take steps to improve them.
Otherwise, we will have no choice to accept the bad results we caused by ourselves in the future.

It's a long time that I have not written anything on Lang-8, and it's a pity because I'm always too lazy to everything. Meanwhile, I have been doing a great job recently on work. Recently I will try to start writting again. If anyone could read my writtings and give me your corrections, I would appreciate it very much. Let's begin!

Boiled dumplings, also named by Jiaozi, or Shuijiao, is a very popular food in China, especially in North China. In the past time, people used to eat boiled dumplings only in the festivals, such as the Spring Festivals, the Lantern Festivals and the Mid-Autumn Festivals, and so on. At that time the whole family got together and celebrated the festivals. It's very hard to collect all the family members together, especially when the children got grown. But it has changed nowadays, and people is used to eating dumplings whenever they want. Many foreigners like eating boiled dumplings too and try it as long as they visit China.

I find a picture showing the two trays of dumplings without boiled. Have you ever seen it and tried to eat it? Do you like the taste?

Nathan Yoo : How to celebrate the 5th anniversary of marriage? (0)

Today is my 5th anniversary of marriage. I want to find some ways to celebrate it with my wife. I plan to buy a present and to make a dinner for my wife by myself. She said we'd go outside to have dinner, but I don't think that's the best. I shared my opinions on it with her, and she agreed with me immediately. We shared five years' good time together and will be staying together forever. That's love, which leads to never-separation between a couple. We will take some photos to remember this fascinating time in order to share them with my relatives in the future. What a good idea! We will do as that.

Nathan Yoo : Swine Flu is Coming (0)

Swine Flu is widely spread all over the world, and many countries have been involved in this influence, including Mexico, US, Canada, UN, EU, australia, Korea, and so on. Fortunately, suspect cases have not yet been reported in China's mainland. Even so, there are many experience for Chinese people to deal with the disease like this, because another named by 'bird flu' has ever erupted in the year 2003 of China , so the government and people there have a accumulation of many experience on preventing and treating this disease. Once there occurs suspect cases, many kinds of emergency response mechanism will be started to protect the people from being affected. I think many other influenced countries may study from China to protect their people on this matter.

It's always cold outside these days. I can't imagine why the weather was like this in Spring. In my memory, Spring always means warm weather, blue sky, white clouds, and green trees, but much has been changed. Who can give a reason for it? The Global climate has changed much in the past years because of human's activities, including the greenhouse effects, the pollution emissions and resources over-exploitation, etc. Let's put together to protect the Global environment.

Nathan Yoo : About the 'Earth Hour' Day (1)

Have you switched off lights for an hour last night? It was the 'Earth Hour' Day. Many people around the world turned off their lights for 60 minutes by the time "Earth Hour" to sign up for the campaign, who pulled together to show concerns with global warming and climate change. Many bussiness districts , shopping malls , and billboards were plunged into temporary darkness to save electricity energy. Many people hold candle-lit parties , or played poker by candlelight , living happily through the time 'Earth Hour' . My family stood outside looking at the stars in the sky last night - where there were much more stars there than that of usual time. Many coutries have taken part in this movement, which concluded China, U.S., Japan, Australia, and so on. It is significant for the human to pull together to do a great job in nowadays.

There were many response activities to sign up for the 'Earth Hour' Day. Many high buildings were lighten off last night, such as the Olympic Park in beijing, the Oriental Pearl Tower in shanghai , and the international financial center in HongKong. In fact , many cities and villages held various activities to celebrate the Day. All the activities have shown the concerns to the climate change of the whole world.

Nathan Yoo : About Retirement (1)

Speaking of retirement, there are different policies in different countries. In China, it is ruled that old men shall retire when to be 60 year old and old women shall be at the age of 55 . In the U.S. , the formal retirement age is 65.5 for old people, but one can apply for retirement when to be less than the age of 65.5, being with a lower pension level. What I am discussing is about which kind of retirement system is more reasonable and more popular for old people, exploring the reasons behind it.

When one reachses an old age, he/she tends to be more conservative and reluctant to accept new ideas and innovations. They are likely to adhere to past practices and old ways. They always hesitate to stive forward. Some original and creative ideas would not be supported by them in most cases, which hinders the development of society in a sense. Too many old people remaining in high positions will hinder the development of society. Every one is human with limited energy and vigor; therefore, after an exhausting working life, one tends to be increasingly slow both in mind and action. Remaining in one's post would undoubtedly impair one's physical and emotional health. If one never stops working, what's the point of life?

On the other hand, different jobs have their diverse traits and distinguishing features. Some call for psychological requirements, such as professors, doctors and research fellows, who are always required to work into their seventies for their rich experience. Conversely some are for physical requirements, such as professional athletes, who always retire at the age of twenty. For most of the enterprises, It would be more economical to retain the old hands than to spend more time and more money training greenhands. Older workers usually are more stable, skilled and experienced than younger ones. Chronological age is not always a true indicator of one's capabilities.

As a conclusion, one's retirement age should be decided according to one's own conditions and willness. We shall adopt a flexible and rational retirement age so that different age can have a chance to give play to their talents and wisdom.

Nathan Yoo : About Robots (0)

With the development of Science , more and more human's work has been taken place by the robots. As this, the robots on assembly lines saves a lot of labor forces. This trend not only improves the work efficiency , but also enhances accuracy. The robots can work in the dangerous environment or the places not accessible for us, and work around the clock , never knowing tiredness. They will bring us much convenience for our lives as well in future, helping old people do the homework, leading young guys to go to schools and working as a homecare to deal with the housework. What a perfect assistant for us!

From the other hand, robots are just to follow the instruction and preset programming by human being, without any of their own ideas. Once there is something wrong with the electric or programms, robots will become a good-to-nothing machine. Robots cannot work creatively or correctly when confronted with complicated situations. Surposing everything would depend on robots , What would human beings be like? just to be a kind of animals that only to take food?
I have no way to imagine it. Conversely in fact, its using becomes more and more popular, so we should make best use of the robots' advantages and bypass their disadvantages.

Nathan Yoo : About Economy (0)

The economy is the fundamental of everything for a country. Without economic prosperity, happiness is just the castle in the air. With a strong economy, we can have a comprehensive welfare system accessible to all citizens and people will have sufficient access to free medical care and education.Along with economic prosperity , our national defense system will be greatly enhanced. The economy is the criterion of a country or government's success.

On the other side, money is omnipotent. The economic level isn't everything of a country. Especially to the citizens, their happiness degrees will always lead to their satifaction to the government in power. It is not uncommon that some countries that boast so-called economic prosperity, corruption and discriminations are prevalent.Without a sense of security , a democratic atmosphere, economic properity doesn't mean everything.

Nathan Yoo : Science or Arts (0)

Which part is more important to the society , science or arts? What criteria is it when judging between them? Different persons have different opinions. The following is my own opinion on it.

From one side to say , the social development is based on science, as any high tehnological product derives from scientific theories.
From the other side , without the contribution from the workers of the arts, such as socail workers, litterateurs and legist, the society
cannot remain healthy, peaceful and stable, and people cannot engage in the scientific work in a good environment.
Therefore, it is necessary to put equal emphasis on the science and arts.
Our life is greatly enriched by the works of arts, such as literature , painting and music, as well as the modern material aspect of civilization is
created by the modern technology . It is scientists' hard work that prospers the material life.

As the upwards to say, science and arts should be placed equally. The government should put emphasis on the both sides. Any deviation or mistake will influence the development of the society.

Nathan Yoo : About Friends (0)

What does a friend look like? Most of us have different opinions on this theme. In my opinion, friends are like the Spring not the Winter , who give me much warmth or help when I fall into depressions. Friends are like the breeze not the gale, who let you feel gentle and soft in various occasions. Friends are like a microwave oven not a frying pan, who are value of getting along with for a long term. Friends are like a fireplace not a icehouse, whom you can ask help for when in need. That's my understanding of the friends.

But how to make a good friend is a common problem among us. To solve this problem, we'll have to give an accurate definition to the 'friend' , which means the relationship between two persons has developed into a certain level without any bloodshed but much kindness and many reciprocal benefits. A real friend will always be honest and loyal to the other side, and firstly do for the sake of others. Good friends often have many similar habits and hobbies, which lead them to be put together and take the same activities. To most of us, friends are the parners , who are valuable to trust in.

Have you listened to a song named 'Friends'? It is said that please forget me when you are living in happyness and please recall me when you feel sad and painful , friend. But seldom people does like that.

A real friend is upwards what I believe to be true.

Nathan Yoo : About the Project Manager (0)

What is the duty of the Project Manager? What does the work position mean? Many such questions often come up in one's mind. The Project Manager is the person who makes a deliberate schedule for a project and supervises the whole execution process. The Project Manager should have a set of skills or techniques , including the abilities to raise the sharp questions , detect the unknown assumptions , and solve the confilicts between people, etc. , and including many skills in modern management as well.

The major responsibility of the Project Manager is to identify different risks to affect the success of the Project, which should be measured by formal or informal ways throughout the whole project's lifetime.

Risks always generate from the uncertainty of the project. A successful project manager often takes the risks as the matter being paid much close attention to. All problems to affect the project usually appear in different types like these or those. A good project manager is able to reduce the risks of a project significantly, persisting in the open policies to communicate with each other so as to give each participator in the project many opportunities to express their own opinions and suggestions.

I agree with such a opinion as a qualified project manager is not only from studying but more from practicing .

I planned to go to see my wife's parents this weekend, but my wife won't be back together with me since she has to receive one-day's training onmodern management in Saturday. What a pity!
Another important reason for this trip is that my son is living there, being breeded by my wife's mother, the guy's grandmother. At the beginning of the new year 2009,we took it back to live with the old couple. My wife and I are always busy with each one's work,so we have no much time to look after him,who is too young for the gardenkinder.
I wrote this one the way going back home. I hope you like it.Haha.
Thanks for my wife to help put it onto the Lang-8.

Nathan Yoo : Thought from an English Book (1)

I got a book named by "Practical Business English" yesterday. I turned it over several times and felt it was a suitable book for me, so I took it into my office this morning. I thought I could read it for some time when I am free. Frankly, I have not studied English for several years till recently I felt it was so important and necessary for me that I picked it up. I found I loved it so much that I would like to study it for a long time every day. The most important thing for English is to grasp the common vacabulary and the prenounciation of each word , which i am sticking to either. The second is to practice reading , writing and listening everywhere with many times, which will lead you to use it fluently . The last one , which is the key, is to keep up studying as frequently as possible. Seldom people can do as that , but I swear I will. Haha...
I remember a song is named of "I Swear" , a very good-listening song. I don't know if you have ever listened to it, if not , I suggest it to you.
A book is often like a bright light in the front , directing the future and alerting the present to us.

Nathan Yoo : About the modern work styles (1)

With the rapid development of science and communication, more and more jobs do not require people to work together in a small working room.As long as one does work well on time, he often has the rights to select any place to work , such as in a resteraunt , on a square , beside the seaside, or even in the outer-space. Those are the modern work styles , which looks so fine to us, but we'd better watch problems on both sides.

On one hand, these modern work styles bring us much convenience and make us feel comfortable . A comfortable work place can please us and improve the efficiency to work. If one plans to work at home, he can help look after the children and take care of home, especially as woman. From a country's sight, the modern styles will help save the energy , reduce the waste gas and end improve the citizens' happiness. Most of us are enjoying the benefits from them nowadays.

On the other hand, they may not take effect on lazy persons and even cause a large project out of control at last. Although many persons adapt to the new styles well , few persons won't , which will place the organization in danger. The new styles don't fit to the persons who are lack of self_sustainability , who have no passion in their jobs, and who are lazy in work.

In the end, I'd like to suggest to the team leaders, " Make a proper work style for your work team , allowing for different persons' habits and customs, and pay more attention to each other in the process so as to take every things in control . Wish you success!"

Nathan Yoo : About the Family (1)

Everyone has a warm family , in which one plays different roles , makes the family happy and shares the fruitful achievements with whole family.wow! It looks so wonderful and harmonious in a stable and not-moving family. But nowadays many jobs require one person to be able to move off the land and to be ready to move again whenever necessary, which makes one feel like a bird flying here and there. It's a pity of modern life.
We must adapt to the new style of life, but I have suggestions to you about family. The first suggestion is to keep your lines of communication open wherever and whenever because your family will call you anytime. The second one is to eat as a family dinner if possible, which is a valuable opportunity for the family to spend time together. The last one is never to bring your office work home and to share the same pastimes with your family.

In the end, I would like to call upon those, who were guilty to their families , to pay more attention to their families and to share the pastimes with their wives and with their children.
If you don't think so , you are making a big mistakes, I think.

Sorry, it seems a little heavy to you. lol . To be relaxing, I'm just making a practice. :P

Nathan Yoo : About the Monitor Camera Guns (1)

With the rapid development of society and the changes of people's value, more and more camera guns were installed everywhere in the cities, especially in the schools , the companies, the residents, and even the street corners. The installed camera guns have many advantages and disadvantages on the both sides.

They can bring us a lot of benefits from variety of aspects of life. They help us ensure the security and develop a sense of safety in the residents. They provide clues and evidence and help police solve the cases and trace the criminals, as well as they scare off some would be criminals. They help police reduce the labor intensity and remind people be carefulwith their speech and conducts, which refrains from indecent behaviors.

On the other side , they cause numerous brazen intrusions on people's privacy. Costly installation and maintenance are a strain on the budgets of the residents and the governments. Some doubt about its function which is not as useful as expected. There are possibilities of being abused by some evil persons for some ulterior motives. Privacy should be given priority and be paid more attentions.

In a conclusion, the camera guns give us safety and convenience , as well as they made intrusions on our privacy and caused us cost much money on them.

Nathan Yoo : Rockets lost to Bulls Yesterday (0)

the Houston Rockets lost to the Chicago Bulls yesterday, which was a pity to Rockets . In the first three quarters, Rockets won more 17 scores than Bulls, when they played a wonderful game and cooperated with each other fluently, especially Yao Ming who gave much support to Rockets in internal side.
Unfortunately , when the play entered the 4th quarter, Yao got his 5th foul at the beginning and the coach had to substitute him with the bench. During this period , Bulls was leaded by a rising star Ross to make a frenzied counterattack and sored the equalizer when only 2 minutes was remained.
Yao was used at that moment but all things gone because Bulls gained momentum and looked enough powerful. Yao could not save the game at last. What a pity game!

Nathan Yoo : Go to buy a LCD TV set (0)

I wanted to buy a LCD TV set as a present for my parents as they will mov into a new house recently. I went to a commercial center to see it this afternoon.

In a shopping mall, I found many kinds of TV sets with different brands, for example, Panasonic, Sony, Sharp, ChangHong, TCL , Hisense and Skyworth, which are all big brands in the TV set field.

I asked the salegirls how about the qualities of the TV sets , how about the price and how about the after-sale service , etc. I asked some information about Panasonic , TCL , and Skyworth during the period.
Frankly speaking , I like the Skyworth brand best, not only because the brand is made from my homeland but its quality was praised by all. We have exactly the same brand of TV set in my house.
Eventually, to support domestics maybe promotes the development of the country's economy from the narrow sense, which perhaps does no good to the economies all over the world in some time.

Nathan Yoo : A-Warm-Day's Feeling (1)

It is a warm day today , in spite that it was cold and windy in the past few days. It was quite cold yesterday , which causes me to wear a suit of thick clothes.
Last night the weather forecast said it would become more and more warming in the coming few days.
In the early spring days the weather becomes more and more warmer, which makes withered trees begin to sprout, more and more flowers blossom , frozen rivers begin to murmur, and concealed birds fly here and there in singing. All things in the world are vivifying in the spring , which contrasts sharply with the phenomenon in the winter.
When it enters the cold winter ，green trees begin to wither, bloomy flowers begin to fade, animals begin to conceal themselves everywhere, and snow falls soon. Everything looks like to be shrouded in the gray color in the winter.
Many things are so different between in winter and in spring , which is just like people's mood on the delighting things and the depressing things.

Nathan Yoo : The PERT Technique (1)

PERT is the abbreviation of "Program Evaluation and Review Technique", which develops at the earliest from the time when the U.S. Navy began to research and produce the Polestar Missile in the 1960s. The PERT technique helped the U.S. Navy to shorten two years's time than the original plan.
In one word, PERT is a technique by utilizing AOE (Activity On Edge Network) to make plans and doing some evaluation and review on it. PERT is able to coordinate a variety of the working procedures in the plan , to make a proper arrangement of manpowers, material resources, the time, and the capital , to speed up the completion of the program. PERT has been extensively utilized in many fields such as the establishing and reviewing of the modern plan , which is one of the most important ways and means in the modern management.

Nathan Yoo : A little tired (3)

I feel a little tired by work this morning . I want to make a short writing today.
My occupation is a system designer with computers and network. My each-day work is to write documents , design the computer systems, and organize different meetings, as well as bring up new guys. In the nearly days I spent much time to study English , practicing writing and speaking, which takes away much energy from me. It is hard to do everything well as man's energy is limited. To have a rest in time is a very important method for us all, especially who have many things to do .
To be concluded, Man should often strike a proper balance between work and leisure. Be quiet to make a full arrangement whatever anxious the matter is.

Nathan Yoo : a period of valuable time (1)

I got up early this morning . As there is nothing to do , I went to sit down before my personal computer, powered it and linked it to the internet network. When I was looking up my GMAIL box, I found my friend Peter.collingridge was online, so I said hello to him and he replied back to me soon. During the conversation , I found he is much interested in Chinese and Chinese culture. I began to told me in China how long the Chinese history lasts , how industrious the Chinese people are , and how broadly the Chinese mainland extents . He felt it was very difficult to identify so many new Chinese words and to understand so much Chinese culture, but he changed his old mind a lot about Chinese country. He said it was very interesting and was eager to travel to China in his free time . I felt I had spent a period of valuable time because I help a foreigner, one of my friends, to know China better.

Happy everyday!
