  • 1)I didn't even have to look in the mirror. Well, the person was not forced to look into the mirror, or they didn't need to look into the mirror. Either way, the person had no intrest in looking in the mirror.

  • 2)I didn't even look in the mirror.
  • 2)I didn't even look in the mirror. The person just didn't look in the mirror.

Both sentences in the body are correct, you would just use them in different contexts. For example you might say

1. Once I put on that hat I knew I looked good. I didn't even have to look in the mirror.

2. I was so late for work today. I just threw on some clothes and walked out the door. I didn't even look in the mirror.

While they both refer to not looking in the mirror the first sentence says that some implied or usual requirement was not complied with. The second says not looking in the mirror was just one of the things not done.

Summary

I didn't look in the mirror - statement of fact.

I didn't even look in the mirror - one of a number of things not done.

I didn't even have to look in the mirror - one of a number of things not done even though it would normally be required.
