The most impressive event in 2008
In the last year, it is the most impressive happening for me that Korea’s National Treasure #1, Sungnyemun, was destroyed by fire.
It was almost exactly one year ago, though, I still cannot forget the feelings I had when the Sungnyemun was collapsing.
Not only Koreans but also many foreigners felt sad to see images of Sungnyemun in flames.
This horrible event showed again that how indifferent Korean government and people were to safe cultural properties.
After opening to the public, Sungnyemun should have been manned by at least one guard.
I hope that this tragedy will not happen again.
