Three days off

We have a national holiday tomorrow, so we have three days off. I'm glad I don't have to go to the office for three days.

In Japan, such national holiday used to be put in Wednesday or Thursday, too. But more than a year ago, the law regarding national holiday was changed and basically national holidays was decided to put in Monday or Friday so that we could enjoy three days off.

Many people including foreign media have said Japanese politics haven't been changed for long time and I cannot help agreeing with it. But the change of the law regarding national holidays are few exceptional cases.

Thank you for your correction. This usage of `observe' is a bit new for me.

Yes, it's a bit advanced! We use "observe" to describe the day a holiday is officially celebrated. I hope it wasn't too overwhelming...it's OK to just say that a holiday falls on Mondays or Fridays, but observed is the most formal/official sounding word, so I wanted to share it with you. ^^

In Japan, many people know Japanese people was known as very hard worker than peers in Europe or U.S.A. For instance, more than 20 years ago, workers had off only on Sunday and they used to work on Saturday.

Recently condition became a bit better but still we think we work harder than Europe or U.S.A guys.

Anyway, yeah, I'm enjoying holidays now. Thank you for your comment.

The expression `hachimaki Japanese' sounds interesting.

Hachimaki? In Japan, generally people doesn't put hachimaki on. But kids sometimes wear it in school. Hmm, I guess, as you implied, hachimaki is used to express fighting spirit.
