Hi ! Long time I did not come here and practice my English. I was very busy busy ! And still busy, since I'm still in exams period. So, I decided to translate an extract from a wikipedia article about Joe Hisaishi. Training my translation skills before my translation exam on Monday !!!

Joe Hisaishi enters in 1969 at Kunitachi College of Music, and he composed musics and openings of animated series since 1974 (Gyatoruzu, Maison Ikkoku, L'académie des ninjas, À plein gaz...), then, a lot of dramas and advertisements.

Added to his talent of compositor, he is a pianist, director, orchestre chief, but also an author (he wrote 3 books, among 2 novels), director (his first movie in 2001 : Quartet, which he also wrote the scenario and composed the music), programmation chief of the new philharmonic orchestre of Japan and a photography lover. His pictures are available on his official website.

Joe Hisaishi knew his first commercial success thanks to the music of Kaze no tani no Naushikaa (Nausicaä de la vallée du vent) by Hayao Miyazaki. Then, they often worked together : Laputa, le Château dans le Ciel (1986), Mon voisin Totoro (1988), Kiki, la petite sorcière (1989), Porco Rosso (1992), Princesse Mononoké (1997), Le voyage de Chihiro (Spirited Away) (2001), Le château ambulant (2005), Ponyo sur la falaise (2008).

Takeshi Kitano's productors asked to him to compose the music for the movie "A scene at the sea" (1991). Then, Takeshi Kitano and Joe Hisaishi worked together for several movies until 2002, for the movie "Dolls", which was their last collaboration.

In 2001, Joe Hisaishi worked for the first time outside Japan : he composed the music of a French movie "Le Petit Poucet".

Here a live of the OST of the movie "Brother" (movie by T. Kitano) composed and played by Joe Hisaishi :

Japanese composers really seem to like "add2" chords. But... I like them too, I guess. :)
