A promise must keep promising.
If you couldn't keep promise, you may do not promise.
If you couldn't keep promise, not only annoy others but also you'll lose your confidence.
Nobody want to work with the man like that.

By the way;
1. Make a promise = 約束をする
2. Keep a promise = 約束を守る
3. Break a promise = 焼く賊を破る

I think those phrases will come in useful :)
