It sounds funny. Couch potato. Do you use it in your daily life? I learn a new idiom. Is it mean to be lazy? There is no explanation, where I learn this phrase.
It's example- "I should be more active and less of a couch potato."
Don't be a couch potato. ( is it right??)

Can you please tell me it is a British idiom or American?
Why is your name objection? :p

One of my favorite video games is Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. One of the most memorable things about the game is the way Phoenix screams "OBJECTION!!" at the prosecution. Again, search "objection" on Google Images and you'll see :P
I also can see yours one. I don't play video games, now. I used to play angry bird on FB. :-)
Studying law always seemed very hard to me, so I have a lot of respect for those who stuck with it and graduated. Good luck!

The phrase "couch potato" originated from the development of TV, believe it or not. One consequence of television, especially when sports games began to be shown on TV (American football/baseball), was the habit of lying on a couch to watch the game, which could last for hours. This inactivity was sometimes accompanied by drinking beer and eating chips (potato chips, not french fries or English "chips") or nuts.
This inactivity finally became described as being a "couch potato." One can easily understand the "couch" part, but the "potato" part is a mystery to me. I tmight refer tot he fact a potato is an idle lump.
It is a currently-used idiom familiar to all English speakers. I believe it originated in The States, but I think it's used world-wide.
Thank you so much!
Myself, I recall some things others consider ancient as if they had just happened. Those memories most often leave me smiling, if not shaking my head in disbelief.
If a person is over 100 they will recall a time before airplanes, fast trains, automobiles, the wars, etc.
