Do you know how long you were in the bath?”
私:”How long?”
Almost two hours.”
私:’Not that long. I usually in the bath about three hours.”
Why so long?”
私:”Want to know why, I was reading a book while I was in the bath.”
Reading a book? You are crazy.”
私:”It’s common. It’s my hobby.”

Sorry I made a mistake.
I erased the second "ので", so I didn't have to erase the first "ので".
私:’Not that long. / That wasn't all that long! ("Not that long" sounds more like you're disputing the fact that you were in the bath for 2 hours, and insisting that you actually took less than 2 hours in the bath.)
I'm usually in the bath for about three hours.” / I usually spend about three hours in the bath.
私:”Want to know why? I was reading a book while I was in the bath.”
I don't dare to do that! I'm afraid of getting my books wet ^^;;
What sorts of books do you enjoy reading? ^_^ Perhaps if you tell us more about the kinds of books that you like (e.g. fantasy, autobiographical, mystery etc.) we could suggest some books that we think you might enjoy. :)
Hi NOON*,
Nice to meet you.
Thank you for your correction.
I read your self-introduction, we have something in common.
Hi birdtaka,
Thank you for your corrections.
I got it.
I love reading, too!!
What kinds of books do you usually read?
It depends on your mood?(笑)
I usually read nonfiction novels.
I read a very interesting book lately.
It's called "How Starbucks saved my life".
I highly recommend it!!
Hi miqi,
lol
Why not? It's enjoyable. At least, give it a try, you will find out that it's very pleasant experience. I like autobiographical, history, classical literature, mystery etc.
Do you have some good ideas?
Thank you for your corrections and commonts.
Take care my busy girl.
Hi kiyo,
"How Starbucks saved my life". OK, thank you very much.
I prefer nonfiction novels. autobiographical, history, classical literature, mystery etc.
Nicole
Hi Nicole,
You seem to have forty-eight hours a day! Any secrets you still keep from your husband? (^^;
This is a greeting rather than a question. Therefore, "?" is sometimes unnatural though it is not a big problem.
「みんな元気だったぁ~~~?」 is natural for teenage girls. (^^)
If you also read outside the bathtub, you can say 「
This sentence is a bit too long, but it describes the scene vividly.
Hi Manabu,
Thank you for your wonderful comment.
Can I tell you a secret? I have 24 hours a day like everybody.
My husband does his own, I do my own. Sometime we watch TV together.
He likes watching fiction program, I don't. It's hard to understand what they were talking about. I enjoy watching reality shows, fashion show, action........ He doesn't.
So, we watch news together and talk about it. Otherwide, we do our own.
I enjoy taking bath and reading books at the same time.
He knows I like hot spring, SPA, bath, but he always want to know why it takes me so long, I never told him before until last night.
My English writing has improved a bit since I joined lang-8, the secret is that I send e-mails to him everyday.~_~ He said to me several times that my wirting is getting better. But he doesn't know why, heheh, you know what? He said my English communication skill is pretty good, but writing is sucks. I was very upset.>.<
He never teach me English. I am gald that I found this site.
I am very grateful to be your friend, thank you so much for your heart-warming messages all the time. You are surely one of best friends of mine here. I am so glad to have a friend like you.
You didn't recommended any books to me? >.<
Thank you!
Talk to you later!
Hi Nicole,
I like to read in futon. It is more comfortable than in the tub. You can fall asleep when you get tired and you do not have to worry about drowning. LoL
> the secret is that I send e-mails to him everyday.~_~
Oh, that is a great idea! You cannot start fighting right there even if you got really mad. ^^;
> You didn't recommended any books to me? >.<
I read ALEX RIDER series last year. It has seven books so far and will be a few more. (The latest one, "Snakehead" is missing on this site. Why?)
http://www.anthonyhorowitz.com/alexrider/books/index.html
The first novel "Stormbreaker" became a movie, so your son might enjoy it, too. (^^) I do not particularly like this kind of book but it is one of the best children's books for English learners. The author, Anthony Horowitz, try to write as realistic as possible however the writes unrealistic stories. (^^; I mean there would be no flying broomstick but only chewing gum explosives or something like that. ^0^ It is not so difficult to read but I used dictionary often. Do you have a dictionary in your bath?
Hi Manabu,
I can't read in futon because I will fall asleep within five minutes.Believe me.~_~
We don't fight. I just ignore him when he piss me off.>.<
>Do you have a dictionary in your bath?
lol lol lol
Omg, do I need a dictionary in my bath room? Taking a bath is for relax, not for learning. While I was in the bath, I was reading Chinese books or Japanese books.
I have not started to read any English books yet.>.<
There are so many new words for me, I lack patience. I should start reading English books.
Thank you for your recommendations. I will check out later.
Tonight I am going to off line early.
Talk to you later.
Hi Nicole!
Unfortunately I don't read much nonfiction apart from things I have to read for school, so I don't have many books to recommend. ^^;
I haven't personally read this (but I intend to sometime) — I've heard that Michael Pollan's "The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals" is pretty good. It's a nonfiction book that deals with the business of food and how it gets on our plate. I'm just suggesting it because you've written quite a bit about food. ^^;
There are also many celebrity chefs who've written memoirs and stuff so you could check those out too if you're so inclined. :) (For example, "Kitchen Confidential" by Anthony Bourdain) ^^
Hi miqi,
lol lol lol
Thank you so much for your comments.
I will check out later~~~
>you've written quite a bit about food. ^^;
Yep, you have metioned before.~_~
See you!
Almost two hours.”
私:”I always do that.
Okay, my favorite piece of classical literature is "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde. It's relatively short but the writing is magnificent.
As for autobiographical non-fiction, I like the works of physicist Richard Feynman "Surely you're Joking, Mr. Feynman" and "What Do You Care What Other People Think". The man was a genius and he lived a spectacular life. It's almost unbelievable that someone could do so much in a lifetime. He's also very funny. Highly recommended.
I also would like to recommend anything by Paulo Coelho especially "the Alchemist" even though it is fictional. It is short, simple, but beautifully written and full of wisdom.
Hey,
Wow, cool. Thank you very much for your valuable information.
I am going to make a list and try to read it.
I will let you the know the results, or maybe not.
I just tried reading half a Manga in the bath (I also had NHK going on in the background). After 45 minutes I was about to pass out.
How on earth do you stay in there for so long?! Are you a fish?
lololololololololololo
Oh, man, that's the differences between human being and fish.
I am a tropical fish and can't live without hot water.
Well, tell you my secrets and you promise me help me with my English?
Fair enough.
I have to say that people have different constitution.
I was born with a strong constitution, I can stay in the hot bath, hot spring as long as I like. However, there are some tips for you.
1, you should eat before going to a bath.
2, during the bath, you should drink water to complement lost water.
3, the key point is after 30 minutes, you should take a break before passing out.
4, get out the bath, drink some water, reading books, cool down a little bit.
5, please wrap a towel while you was out of the bath, if you get a cold, it's not my fault.
6, add hot water into the bath, then start over again.
7,I am not sure that you can stay how long, using this menthods I can stay as long as I want.
8, enjoy your long bath, tell me the result and don't forget your promisses.
9, May I post this with your question?
Good luck!
Well, if we're going to do this, let's do this the right way...
(I bet someone is going to correct my English)
----- Cut and Paste The Following ------
Dear Nicole,
Congratulations on making the cover of TV Guide! See, I told you that curing cancer would be a good idea. Anyway, I have a question about something you said in your interview. After the part where you described how you liberated Panama from the Nazis, you mentioned that you read in the bath for 3 hours. How is this possible? I tried this and almost passed out after 40 minutes. Are you a fish?
Sincerely,
溺れてing in Orlando
