A Book I'm Reading

I've been reading an English book which one of my American friends recommended. It's so difficult to read and actually I don't understand at all what the writer wants to say. I don't think the language he uses is not so difficult, but I can't figure out what story is playing out as I read it. Nevertheless, I can't give it up and start reading a different book. I know that is what I should do not to waste precious time, but it is the last thing I can do every time I come across a difficult book like this. I wish I could do that.

Which book are your trying to understand? I know a lot of people read books in English then post questions about certain passages on here that they don't understand. Perhaps, you could give that a try. I am the same way though, if a book is slow it is hard for me to finish reading it.

The book is "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close" by Jonathan Safran Foer.

Hm, I haven't heard of that one before. Well, I hope you have an easier time understanding as the book goes on.

I often give up on books, I figure there are so many good books that it's OK to stop reading ones I'm not enjoying! Are you able to read while you commute?

Yes, I think you're right. I can read while I commute.
