What is really important is not to be seen with your eyes. This is the words of "Little Prince." However, these days, more people tend to look at just what they can see with their eyes. For example, at many high schools in Japan, both teachers and students just care the ups and downs of their grades. But what is more important is students' development as human beings. What teacher should do is to derive their students' talents or good points from them. Yet, it seems to me what they usually do is to suppress them rather than develop them. Their top priority seems how many students pass the entrance exams of prestigious universities. To me, it is not the top priority at all.

In English we usually use ' to quote a title and " to quote speech or a phrase, etc.

I have heard their is alot of competition and pressure on Japanese students to get the best grades for university.
I actually made a mistake myself! I should have said "I have heard THERE is...".
Maybe I should learn English before continuing to learn Japanese? :>)
Osamu-san: Great essay! This is a big problem in America too, even in Universities. Too many people just feel the need to have a degree without really caring about the learning.
In America, there is also this weird cultural aspect of ostracizing people who are smart and educated. I don't think that's a problem in Japan though.
