Today I read on a newspaper that Obama was criticized because he bowed in front of the Emperor when in visit in Japan. From what I read the reason seems to be that "an American president must not become weak".
I couldn't believe what I was reading. From what I understand in Japanese culture bowing is the most appropriate greeting. Especially when meeting the Emperor. I think some people should better be silence than talking about things they don't understand.
Am I wrong?

Sbaglio forse?

Certainly you don't wrong.
For the newspaper campany,"New York Post", it's not big problem that the Mr.Obama had bowed too deeply.
Because the the newspaper had assimilated Mr.Obama to a chimpanzee before.
When a fierce chimpanzee had felt to the policeman's pistol in Connecticut state,
the newspaper' comic said,"Already they will not adress a bill of the economy recovering".
A lot of activists of black power and a representitive of The Senata criticised the newspaper.
The root of racism is deep.
(I'm sure you can understand this comment even if I write it in Japanese, but now I'd like to write in English so that Americans can read this)
I was seriously disappointed to hear the criticism. Theoretically, not bowing in formal meeting in Japan is equivalent to refusing handshake in America.
The comments on this article just made me sad:
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2009/11/obama-emperor-akihito-japan.html
Apparently, most of them took it granted that everyone SHOULD follow American cultural code everywhere. How could they be so ethnocentric?
By the way, I don't think Obama should bow that deep and it would be enough if he bowed as low as the emperor and empress. But of course such clumsiness is very irrelevant because Obama is not Japanese.
You're down right on that.
