質問があるんですが…
この日記に「妹さん」と書いてあります。その人は私の上司の妹さんですから、丁寧語を使ったほうがいいと思ったんですが、今上司と話さないで皆さんと話していますけど…
「妹」と書いたらいいでしょうか。

Questa settimana sono molto occupato.
Un progetto di ricerca su cui sto lavorando con il mio capo è quasi concluso, quindi vorremmo scrivere l'articolo e spedirlo al giornale prima di Natale. Ma all'inizio di dicembre ci sarà il matrimonio della sorella del mio capo, quindi lui dovrà andare in Italia in quei giorni. Per cui in questi giorni sto cercando di fare del mio meglio per finire questo progetto e non ho molto tempo per scrivere qui. Mi spiace.

Avrei una domanda ...
Prima ho scritto 妹さん. La persona è la sorella del mio capo, quindi ho pensato fosse meglio usare una forma rispettosa verso di lui, ma ora non sto parlando con lui ma con voi.
Dovrei forse usare 妹?

The research I'm doing with my boss is almost done and we want to write and submit a paper by Christmas. But, at the beginning of December there is my boss's sister's wedding, so he is to leave for Italy then. In this post I wrote「妹さん」. She is my boss's sister, so I thought I'd better use the polite speech, but now I'm not talking with him rather with you.

Today I read on a newspaper that Obama was criticized because he bowed in front of the Emperor when in visit in Japan. From what I read the reason seems to be that "an American president must not become weak".
I couldn't believe what I was reading. From what I understand in Japanese culture bowing is the most appropriate greeting. Especially when meeting the Emperor. I think some people should better be silence than talking about things they don't understand.
Am I wrong?

Oggi ho letto sul giornale che Obama è stato criticato perché si è inchinato di fronte all'imperatore quando era in visita in Giappone. Dalla lettura del giornale si evincerebbe che la ragione sia che "un presidente americano non deve diventare debole".
Non potevo credere a ciò che stavo leggendo. Se non sbaglio nella cultura giapponese inchinarsi è la cosa più appropriata da farsi. In particolar modo quando si incontra l'imperatore.
Penso che certa gente farebbe meglio a tacere piuttosto che parlare di cose che non sanno.
Sbaglio forse?

今朝は起きたとき、日はまだでませんでした。昨日の夜に、日出の時間を調べることを忘れてしまいました。
日出の光がでてから、走って行きます。その光のために、どこも私が見えた所がきれいになりました。すばらしい経験だと思います。

In due mesi, parteciperò ad una maratona, quindi ora non posso fermare gli allenamenti. Ma visto che le lezioni iniziano alle 9 del mattino, ho pensato di impostare la sveglia alle 6.
Quando mi sono svegliato stamattina, il sole non era ancora sorto. Ieri sera mi ero dimenticato di controllare l'ora del sorgere del sole.

Even though I'm attending a conference, I jog every day.
In two months I'll participate in a marathon, so I can't stop the training now. But, the lectures start at 9am, so I thought to set the alarm at 6am. When I woke up this morning, the sun didn't come up yet.
Last night I forgot to check the time of sunrise.
As the light of dawn came out, I went running. Every where I was looking up was turned beautiful thanks to the sunrise light.

会議に出席している人で、日本人の物理学者がたくさんいます。ですけど、私は日本語で話す自信があまりありません。それに、知らない人に話したら、ちょっと照れます。

L'altro ieri sono arrivato a Ginevra. Visto che sto partecipando ad una conferenza, sono un po' occupato, ma ora ho un po' di tempo per scrivere qualcosa.
Ogni giorno dalle 9 alle 6 ascolto talks. Finora quelli che penso fossero interessanti erano sfortunatamente pochi. Forse i prossimi saranno meglio.
Tra i partecipanti alla conferenza, ci sono molti fisici giapponesi. Però non mi sento abbastanza sicuro da parlare in giapponese. Inoltre, sono un po' timido quando parlo con gente che non conosco.

The day before yesterday I arrived in Geneva. I am a bit busy as I'm attending a conference since yesterday, but now I have a bit of time to write my diary.
Every day I'm listening to talks from 9 to 6. It's a pity that the ones I thought were interesting were few. Maybe the next ones will be more interesting.
Among the people attending the conference, there are several Japanese physicists, but I don't have much confidence to talk in Japanese. Also, I am a bit shy when I talk to people I don't know.

９月はとても忙しそうだと思っています。来週にジュネーブにいます。その後でパリに行って、スペインに行く予定です。パリでも、スペインでも、今週に書かれた講演をする予定ので、頑張ろうと思っていますけど、ちょっと心配しています。私は、講演をすることが嫌いですが、しかたがありません。

Yesterday, I got back home and my vacation was over. I was happy to see friends I didn't see in a while. We went to our favorite restaurants, to see movies and also to a birthday party.
Had my friends been Japanese, they would have said "Welcome back". And I would have replied "I'm home". I lived in NYC for 6 years, and New York feels like home.
This vacation was really needed. I was so tired. To tell you the truth, last week, I didn't do any research, neither did I study Japanese nor did I train for the marathon. Today I return to my life before last week.
In the next days, I think of writing about this vacation.

日本人の小説家の中で一番好きな村上春樹の新しい小説を買いたかったのですが、今読めないことは分かります。
その店で、面白そうなタイトルの本を見つけて買いました。その本は「日本人の知らない日本語」と言います。読んでみようと思いました。とても遅く読むかも知れませんけど。

La vacanza new yorkese è piacevole, ma lunedì tornerò a casa. Da allora riprenderò a scrivere qui regolarmente ed a studiare giapponese. A dire la verità, non ho studiato per nulla questa settimana.
Oggi sono andato al Kinokuniya di New York. Quando ho provato a leggere dei libri scritti in giapponese, sono rimasto sorpreso che riuscissi a capirci qualcosa. Ovviamente, leggere era difficile visto che i kanji che conosco sono ancora pochi, ma ero felice di riuscire a leggere un poco. Da ora voglio studiare duramente.
Volevo comprare l'ultimo romanzo di Haruki Murakami che è il mio autore preferito tra gli scrittori giapponesi, ma so che ora non sono in grado di leggerlo.
Ho trovato un libro dal titolo interessante nel negozio e l'ho comprato. Si intitola "Il giapponese che i giapponesi non conoscono". Ho pensato di provare a leggerlo. Anche probabilmente lo leggerò molto lentamente.

The vacation in NYC is fun but on Monday I'll be back home. Then I will write here regularly and study Japanese. To tell the truth I hadn't studied at all this week.
Today, I went to the NYC Kinokuniya store. When I tried to read some books in Japanese, I was surprise I was understanding a bit. Of course, reading was hard since the kanji I know are still a few, but I was happy to have been able to read a bit. From now on, I want to study hard.
I wanted to buy the new book of Haruki Murakami who is my favorite writer among Japanese novelists, but I know I'm not able to read it now. But I bought another book.
At the store, I found a book with a title that sounds interesting and I bought it. The book is titled "Japanese that Japanese don't know". I thought I will try to read. Though probably I will read it very slowly.

あさって、ニューヨークでレースに参加しますが、トレーニングは十分ではなかったと思っています。５月に、始めてマラソン大会に出場したけど、その前には今より強く感じていました。だから、速いレースを走れないことはちょっと心配します。だけど、レースのメダルが欲しいので、終えてみようと思っています。
うーん。勝つことが出来ません。今も将来も出来ませんが、そんな長いレースを終えられた走者にメダルをくれます。かかられた時間が関係ではありません。すごいでしょうね。

Visto che sono qui da solo, ho pensato di scrivere un po' qui.
Dopo domani, parteciperò ad una gara in New York, ma penso che l'allenamento non è stato abbastanza. I'm now drinking a coffee in a coffee-shop and in no more than one hour I'll take a bus to NYC. I'm here alone, so I thought to write a bit on my journal.
In two days, I'll take part to a race in New York, but I'm thinking that I didn't train enough. In May, I participated to a Marathon for the first time, but I was feeling stronger then than now. So, I'm a bit worried I won't be able to run a fast race. But since I want the race medal, I'll try to finish it.
mmm. I am not able to win it. Not now not in the future, but runners who finished this kind of long races receives a medal. I doesn't matter how much time they take. Isn't it great?

明日の朝は走ろうと思っていますけど、今朝は寝ることが要りました。

Stamattina mi sono svegliato alle 5 e mezza. Fuori era ancora buio e si sentiva il rumore della pioggia. Solitamente corro anche se piove, ma non stamattina.
Secondo il mio marathon training, avrei dovuto correre 12 miglia. Ma dopo essermi alzato, ho pensato "sono troppo stanco! Così non va bene!" Bevendo un bicchiere d'acqua e guardando fuori dalla finestra il parcheggio buio pensavo se andare a correre o meno. Volevo dormire quindi sono tornato in camera ed ho dormito fino alle 8.
Domani penso che andrò a correre, ma stamattina avevo bisogno di dormire.

This morning I woke up at 5:30. Outside was still dark, and I could hear the rain. I usually run, even if it rains, but today I didn't.
According to my marathon training, I had to run 12 miles. But after getting up, I thought "I'm too tired! It's not good!" While drinking a glass of water and watching through the window the dark parking-lot, I was considering whether to run. I wanted to sleep, so I went back to bedroom and slept till 8am.
I think I will run tomorrow morning, but this morning I needed to sleep.

Sono andato dal barbiere e mi sono fatto tagliere i capelli prima della gara di domenica. Quando corro, mi viene caldo per colpa dei capelli. Inoltre, penso che corro più velocemente se ho i capelli corti.
Sulla strada verso il barbiere, mi è venuto in mente un telefilm che ho visto ieri. In questo telefilm, una protagonista è una parrucchiera ed è vittima di violenza domestica. Il titolo del telefilm è "Last Friends". La tematica è triste e greve, ma credo sia un buon telefilm. Ogni volta che guardo un episodio, mi viene su una rabbia. Non riesco a concepire che ci sia qualcuno che picchia un bambino od una donna, dicendo loro che li ama.

I went to the barber shop and have my hair cut before the race on Sunday. It is because when I run I get hot because of my hair. And I think I'll run faster if I have short hair.
On the way to the barber shop, a drama I watched yesterday came to my mind. In this drama, the protagonist is a hair dresser and a victim of domestic violence. The title of the drama is "Last Friends". The thematic is sad and serious, but I think it's a good drama. Always when I watch an episode, I think 'why?'. When I think that such evil actions happen for real, I get angry. I can't conceive that there is somebody who would hit a woman or a child while telling them he loves them.

Giovedì scorso, il mio capo è partito per l'Italia quindi ho pensato che avrei avuto più tempo di primo per studiare giapponese ma ... volendo finire un conto prima di partecipare alla mezza maratona che si terrà questa domenica, ed avendo l'allenamento per la mezza maratona ... non ho avuto tempo!
Ieri, mi sono svegliato alle 5 per correre nel fresco della mattina. A quell'ora, era ancora buio e si poteva vedere la luna brillare. Nella quiete mattina, ho bevuto un caffè e mangiato un paio di biscotti e sono andato a correre. Era meraviglioso. È difficile svegliarsi a quell'ora, ma ogni volta che corro di mattina, sono felice e mi sento in pace. È una bella sensazione.

Last Thursday, my boss went to Italy for vacation, so I thought I would have more time than before to study Japanese, but ... I have a research to want to finish before participating to the Half Marathon, which will be held this Sunday, and I have the half-Marathon training ... so I didn't have time!
Yesterday, I woke up at 5 so to run in the cool morning. At that time, it was still dark and a glittering moon could have been seen. In the early morning I drank a coffee and ate some cookies, and then I was running in the early morning light. It was beautiful. Waking up at that time is hard, but when I run in the morning, I am happy and I feel at peace. It's a nice feeling.

Non mi sono dimenticato dei molti amici che ho incontrato su questo sito, ma negli ultimi giorni sono stato molto occupato. La ricerca su cui sto lavorando con il mio capo sta avanzando velocemente e quindi non ho avuto tempo per scrivere su questo diario.
Spiegare la vita dello scienziato è un po' difficile. Ci sono giorni in cui non faccio nulla aspettando qualche nuova idea e ci sono giorni in cui lavoro tutto il giorno senza sosta, per questa ragione non so se domani sarà una giornata tranquilla o impegnata. Per cui scusatemi se scompaio improvvisamente.

I didn't forget the many friends I met on this site, but lately I was very busy. The research I'm working on with my boss is progressing quickly, so I didn't have time to write on the diary.
Explaining the life of a researcher is a bit difficult. There are days when I don't do anything waiting for new ideas, and there days when I work all day long without rest, because of that I don't know whether tomorrow will be restful or busy. So I'm sorry if I suddenly disappear.

今週の新しい漢字は季節や温度についてです。春夏秋冬や暑や熱を覚えました。昨日は、熱という漢字は一番難しいと思いましたが、今日は、暑です。私は、暑い気候と熱がキライでしょう。（笑）

Ho appena finito di ripassare i kanji e le parole studiate. È stata un po' dura.
Ogni fine settimana, studio dei kanji nuovi e così durante la settimana il ripasso è più difficile di lunedì e martedì. Tutte le settimane, intorno a questo periodo, penso che mai imparerò questi kanji.
I nuovi kanji di questa settimana hanno a che fare con le stagioni e la temperatura. Ho studiato le quattro stagioni e caldo e febbre, etc. Ieri pensavo che il kanji per febbre fosse il più difficile, mentre oggi quello per caldo. Penso che proprio non mi piacciano i climi caldi e la febbre.

I just finished reviewing kanji and words learned. It was a bit hard.
Every weekend, I memorize new kanji, so during the week, the review is the hardest on Mondays and Tuesdays. Every week, around this time, I think I will never learn these kanji.
This week new kanji were related with climate and temperature. I studied the four seasons and hot and fever. Yesterday I thought the hardest was the kanji for fever, while today it's the one for hot. Probably I hate fevers and hot climates.

Oggi sono andato all'ospedale e mi hanno fatto un checkup.
Un anno fa un amico, anche lui corridore, mi ha detto "come runner, è meglio che ti fai un checkup ogni anno". Da quella volta, in estate fisso un appuntamento per un checkup anche se non mi piace molto. Le ragioni sono varie, ma in particolare è che ogni volta mi si chiede "mangia a sufficienza?". Sono molto magro e gente che non mi conosce spesso mi fa questa domanda. In particolare i dottori.

多分ちょっとおかしいと思うんですが、私は雷雨が好きです。見るとき、夏休みを思い出しますから。

Il cielo è divenuto improvvisamente scuro e si poteva sentire un tuono. Dopo 10 minuti una forte pioggia ha iniziato a cadere.
Sono andato alla finestra ma non si riusciva a vedere molto.
Ho osservato la gente che scendeva dalle macchine che entrava nel parcheggio di fronte a casa mia e si precipitavano verso la porta delle loro case.
Ora la pioggia ha già scemato. Era un temporale estivo: arriva improvvisamente e finisce improvvisamente.
Forse sembrerà strano ma a me piacciono i temporali. Quando li guardo mi fanno venire in mente le vacanze estive.

The sky became suddenly dark and a thunder could be heard. After 10 minutes, a heavy rain started to fall.
I went to the window but barely I could see anything at all.
I was watching people getting off from the cars coming into the parking lot in front of the house and rushing to their houses.
Now the rain has stopped. It was a summer thunderstorm which starts suddenly and finishes suddenly.
I think it could be a bit weird, but I like thunderstorms. It is because when I'm watching them they remind me of summer vacation.

でも、ときどき漢字の入れ墨は見えます。昨日の朝、ヨガの練習のあとで、喫茶店で朝ご飯を食べるとき、「希望」という漢字の入れ墨を入れている女の人を気付いて、ちょっとびっくりしました。実は、２週間前に、この単語を覚えたのですが、「何かご希望がありますか」という表現に作りました。だから、入れ墨を読むと、「ホープ」という単語は分からないんですが、「願い」は分かりました。

So che i tatuaggi occidentali sono molto diversi da quelli giapponesi.
Mi sembra che in Giappone sia raro avere tatuaggi di kanji, ma in Occidente è molto popolare. Anch'io ci avevo pensato un po', ma visto che è raro che il kanji venga scritto bene e con sapienza, non ho voluto avere qualcosa sul mio corpo che fosse difficile da eliminare.
Ma a volte è possibile vedere tatuaggi di kanji. Ieri mattina, dopo la lezione di yoga, stavo facendo colazione in un bar quando ho notato una donna con un tatuaggio della parola 希望 e mi ha stupito un po'. Infatti due settimane fa, avevo studiato questa parola ma usata nell'espressione "Ha qualche desiderio?". Così a leggere il tatuaggio capivo "richiesta" invece di "speranza"

I know that Western-style tattoos are very different from the Japanese ones.
I think in Japan tattoos of kanji are rare, but in the West they are very popular. Also I thought about it, but because it's rare that the kanji is written well and skillfully, I didn't want to put on my own body something that is hard to erase.
But sometimes tattoos of kanji can be seen. Yesterday morning, after my yoga practice I was having breakfast at a coffee-shop when I noticed a woman with a tattoo of the word 希望 and it surprised me a bit. I learned that word two weeks ago, but used in the expression "do you have any request?" So reading the tattoo I was understanding "request" instead of "hope".

今日は天気がよかったです。今朝、少し遅く起きたんですが、ジョギングをして、本当に楽しました。でも、マラソン大会の前より少し遅いと思います。８月にニューヨークであるハーフマラソン大会の出場なんで、厳しい訓練をしておきます。それに、ハーフマラソン大会の日は弟の誕生日もです。ニューヨークでゴールラインを渡って、「誕生日、おめでとう」と言うことを考えます。

Ultimamente ero stanco e stavo poco bene, così ho deciso di prendere una pausa dallo studio del giapponese. Ho continuato a lavorare e quindi non erano le mie vacanze estive. Infatti non posso prendere vacanze fino ad Agosto.
Oggi il tempo era bello. Stamattina, sebbene mi sia svegliato un po' tardi, sono andato a correre e me ne è piaciuto ogni momento. Ma credo di essere un po' più lento di prima della maratona. Ad agosto parteciperò ad una mezza maratona che si terrà a NYC, quindi devo allenarmi duramente. Inoltre, il giorno della mezza maratona è anche il compleanno di mio fratello. Passando il traguardo a NYC, penserò di dire 'Buon Compleanno'.

Lately I've been tired and didn't feel very well, so I decided to take some rest from my Japanese studies. I was still working, so they weren't my Summer vacation. I can't take vacation till August. Too bad!
Today the weather was good. This morning, even though I woke up a bit late, I went running and enjoyed it very much. But I think I'm a bit slower than before my marathon. I will train hard as in August I will run in a Half-Marathon that is held in NYC. Moreover, the day of the half-marathon is also my brother's birthday. I will cross the finish line in NYC and will think to say 'happy birthday!'.

Every day I set the alarm clock at 6am, because I prefer to run in the fresh morning. But, this morning, I couldn't hear the alarm clock, and I woke up at 8am. Since it was late, I didn't went jogging.
I thought of doing it in the evening, but when I came back home, the temperatures were still too hot. I'll do tomorrow, since I don't like running when it's hot. Actually that's the reason I wake up in the early morning. Despite my friends calling me 'stupid'. :)

L'altro ieri ho guardato l'ultima puntata del telefilm 'cento milioni di stelle che cadono dal cielo'. Il personaggio principale era interpretato dall'attore Kimura Takuya. Ho notato la sua performance in altri telefilm e mi piace.
Il personaggio interpretato da Kimura Takuya è molto diverso da quelli nei telefilm che avevo visto precedentemente. Solitamente interpreta la parte del carismatico bravo-ragazzo, ma qui era una persona complicata. Visto che ci potrebbero essere persone che stanno leggendo questo post e non hanno visto questo telefilm, preferirei non raccontare la storia. Ma c'è una cosa che vorrei dire. È un telefilm molto triste quindi il prossimo voglio che sia allegro.

The day before yesterday I watched the last episode of the tv series 'One hundred million stars falling from the sky'. The actor, Kimura Takuya, was the main character. I noticed his acting in other series, and I came to appreciate him.
Kimura Takuya's character was very different from the ones he played in the series I watched before this. Usually he plays the part of the good and energetic guy, but here he was a rather complicated person. Since someone who is reading this entry might not have seen this series, I would like not to tell the story. But there is one thing I want to say. It was a very sad series, my next one I want it to be a happy one.

こんな気候の間には、食べることは大変になれると思います。特に、昼間です。今日は、コロラドから帰った上司を会ってから、食事に行ったんですが、何を食べたいとは思えませんでした。だから、日本レストランに行きました。蒸し暑い気候のとき、欲しい食べ物しかありません。この気候にうな丼がちょうどいいと思います。

Ultimamente, è arrivanto un gran caldo umido, e mi sentivo poco bene e sempre stanco. Quindi anche se ieri avrei voluto scrivere, non l'ho fatto.
Sia in America che in Europa, non c'è una stagione delle piogge, ma in questo periodo può farsi molto caldo ed umido. Tuttavia, seppure il giorno è caldo, la sera fa ancora un po' freddo e quindi tengo una coperta accanto al letto.
Durante un tempo del genere, penso che mangiare possa diventare difficile. Specialmente durante il giorno. Oggi dopo aver incontrato il mio capo che è tornato dal Colorado, stavo andando a mangiare ma non mi riusciva di pensare a nulla che volessi mangiare. Quindi sono andato in un ristorante giapponese. Quando il tempo è caldo-umido, c'è solo una cosa che ho desiderio di mangiare. Credo che in questa stagione l'unagi-don sia perfetto.

多分ミラノはイタリアで一番好きな町ではないんですが、私は大好きです。

Ultimamente, piove tutte le settimane per almeno tre giorni. Visto che fa fresco, non posso pensare che sia proprio male, però tutti preferiscono un giorno di sole. Specialmente visto che piove spesso nel fine settimana.
Oggi è un giorno piovoso, e probabilmente lo sarà anche domani. Guardare la pioggia mi fa venir in mente la città dove son nato. Ovvero Milano. C'è molta gente ed è molto chiassosa, quindi vivendo in posto diverso come quello in cui vivo ora raramente mi fa venir in mente Milano. Ma a Milano piove sempre per cui guardando la pioggia penso un po' a Milano.
Probabilmente Milano non è la città più bella d'Italia, ma a me piace molto.

Recently, it rains every week for at least three days. As the weather is cool, I can't think it's very bad, but everybody would prefer a sunny day. Especially, because it often rains over the weekend.
Today it's a rainy day, and probably tomorrow too. When I look at rain, it reminds me of where I was born. That is Milan in Italy. I lived there until I moved to US. It is full of people and lively, so where I live now, as it is different, doesn't remind me of it. But, as it always rains in Milan, when I look at rain I think a bit about it.
Probably it's not the most beautiful city in Italy, but I love it.

実をいうと、この先生はあまり大学で会っていませんが、よくこの喫茶店で出会います。その出会いだから、研究を話し合い始めました。とても面白いし、将来の研究されるでしょう。

Ogni lunedì e mercoledì mattina vado a lezione di yoga; dopo la lezione di stamattina, stavo lavorando su alcuni problemi (di ricerca) mentre bevevo un caffè nel bar situato sotto lo studio di yoga.
Essendo l'università dove lavoro non proprio vicina alla città dove ci sono i ristoranti, se sono già al bar, non vado in ufficio, bensì spesso aspetto lì gli amici per poi andare a pranzo. Così stamattina mentre sorseggiavo un caffè, facendo un po' di ricerca ed aspettando un amico, ho incontrato casualmente un professore con cui lavoro spesso.
A dire la verità, questo professore raramente l'ho visto in università, invece spesso lo incontro al bar. A causa di questo incontro fortuito, ci siamo messi a discutere di ricerca. È stato molto interessante e forse ci nascerà dei progetti futuri.

I go every Monday and Wednesday morning to practice yoga, and after this morning practice, I was tackling some research problem while drinking coffee in the coffee-shop located beneath the yoga studio.
Because the university where I work is not close to town where there are the restaurants, if I'm already in the coffee-shop, I don't go to my office, but instead I often wait there my friends to go for lunch. So, today as I was in the coffee-shop drinking coffee, doing research and waiting my friend, I met by chance a professor with whom I often work.
To tell the truth, I've rarely seen her at school, instead I often bump into her at the coffee-shop. Because of that casual encounter, we started talking about research. It was very interesting and maybe the source of some future research.

昼休みは、彼と待って、一緒に食事をしました。昼ご飯の後で、働きに帰る前に、コーヒーを飲みながら、ゆっくりおしゃべりしました。
今日は車で来たと私に言いました。バスでよく来るので、市場に行くつもりだと私は聞きました。行くつもりではないけど、君は食べ物を買うことが要ったら、車は借りられると返答しました。
それで、車を止めた所を教えてくれました。でも、車を取りに行くと、このところを忘れました。彼に電話をしてみましたが、違う電話番号を持っていました。
だから、市場へ行きませんでしたが、明日は車で来ようと思っていなかったけど、車を貸すので運転しようとこの友達は言いました。優しい友達ですね。

Andare ogni settimana a fare la spesa non è conveniente visto che, tra le altre cose, non ho una macchina.
Solitamente ci vado nelle mattine non troppo occupate. A volte insieme ad un amico che ha la macchina.
Durante la pausa pranzo, mi sono incontrato con lui e abbiamo pranzato insieme. Dopo pranzo, prima di tornare al lavoro, chiaccheravamo del più e del meno mentre bevevamo un caffè.
Mi ha detto che oggi era venuto in macchina. Visto che solitamente viene con il bus, gli ho chiesto se avesse l'intenzione di andare al mercato. Mi ha risposto che non ne aveva l'intenzione, ma se avessi avuto bisogno di comprare da mangiare, avrei potuto prendere in prestito la sua macchina.
Per questa ragione mi ha spiegato dove aveva parcheggiato la macchina. Ma quando sono andato a prenderla, mi sono dimenticato il posto. Ho provato a telefonargli, ma avevo dietro il numero sbagliato.
Quindi non sono andato al mercato, ma mi ha detto che anche se non pensava domani di venire in macchina, avrebbe guidato per potermi prestare la macchina. È un buon amico, neh ...

Going for shopping every week is inconvenient, since, among other reasons, I don't have a car.
Usually I go during a non-busy morning. Sometimes, I go with a friend who has a car.
At lunch break, I met this friend and we had lunch together. After lunch and before going back to work, we were quietly chatting over a cup of coffee.
He told me he came by car today. Since he usually comes by bus, I asked whether he had intentions to go to the grocery stores. He replied that he didn't but if I had to buy food I could borrow his car.
So he told me where he parked. But when I went to get the car, I forgot the place. I tried to call him, but I had the wrong number.
So I didn't go to the groceries, but he told me that even though he wasn't thinking to come by car tomorrow, he would drive so to lend me his car. He is a nice friend, isn't he?

La prima volta che sono venuto negli Stati Uniti, c'erano molte cose che mi sorprendevano. Anche se Europa e USA sono chiamate l'Occidente, credo che le due regioni siano molto diverse. Per esempio negli spettacoli di fuochi artificiali.
In Italia, ci sono tradizionalmente due importanti spettacoli di fuochi artificiali. Credo che quello per il Nuovo Anno sia più grande di quello di Ferragosto (15 agosto). Per questo per me i fuochi artificiali sono uniti alle temperature fredde. In America invece quello che più importante è quello per la festa dell'Indipendenza, e quando sono andato per la prima volta a vedere i fuochi del 4 Luglio, mi sembrava come la notte di San Silvestro in estate.

The first time I came to US, there were many things that surprised me.
Thought Europe and US are called the Western Countries, I think the two are very different. For instance, in the firework shows.
In Italy, traditionally there are two main firework festivals. I think the one on New Year's Eve is bigger than the one on 8/15. Because of that, fireworks are for me attached to cold weather. But in America, the most important festival is the one for Independence Day, so when I went for the first time to see the firework show on 7/4, it was like a New Year's Eve in Summer.

でも、夏は会議があるときなんですが、行かなければなりません。９月にヨーロッパへジェネーバの会議に行きます。実を言うと、会議はあまり好きではありません。数時間に人々に聴きながら、座らなければならないことが嫌いですから。でも、これも仕事です。

Ultimamente non c'era nulla di cui scrivere.
Non ho scritto nulla in questo diario, poiché non è successo nulla di interessante o insolito. Anche se i giorni erano un po' noiosi, mi andava bene. Infatti, mi piace alzarmi presto, lavorare con calma e studiare giapponese. Preferisco le estati tranquille.
Ma estate è anche il tempo in cui si tengono le conferenze e ci dovrò andare ad una. A causa di questo, Sarò in Europa per una conferenza a Ginevra. A dire il vero, non mi piacciono molto le conferenze. Infatti odio dover stare seduto per ore ed ascoltare la gente. Ma anche questo è lavoro.

Lately there was nothing to write about.
I didn't write anything on this diary, since nothing unusual or interesting happened. It was ok even though the days were a bit dull. As a matter of fact, I like waking up early, slowly working and studying Japanese. I prefer quiet summers.
But, Summer is also the time conferences are held and I will have to go. I will go to Europe for a conference in Geneva. To tell the truth, I don't like conferences much. In fact I hate to have to sit for hours while listening to people. But even this is work.
