Eat, Pray, Love - and you?

I've been reading a novel 'Eat, Pray, Love' these days.
The movie version of it will be released in Japan tomorrow!
Has anyone seen it already?

This novel is a kind of an autobiography of the author, who is in her mid-thirties, just after a divorcement, and searching for a new way of living peacefully.
She goes to Italy first to explore pleasure, then goes to India to explore divinity, and finally goes to Indonesia to find a true love. (I don't really know about the latter part since I haven't reached there yet.)

Her trip was for a year, four months for each country.
Where would you go and what would you do if you could go on a trip for a whole year? :-)

I'll write my answer in the next entry!

Easy. I'd head straight for Nihon to experience and really appreciate everything I've been reading about for the past five years!! Oh, and I'd certainly visit my Nihonjin friends, too.

"Eat, Pray, Love" surprisingly left our local theater fairly rapidly. It has received decent reviews. I guess that if a movie isn't bringing in the money for the theater, they get rid of it to bring in another movie that WILL make them more money, if possible.

I think it involves a lesbian theme, if I'm not mistaken.

I've always liked Annette Benning. One of my absolute favorite movies is "The American President," which came out at least 15 years ago. Ms. Benning becomes the President's GF. It's sort of a "dramedy" (part drama, part comedy). It also features Michael J. Fox as a presidential staffer, and Michael Douglas playing the role of a U.S. president. Poor Michael Douglas has severe lung cancer now. Sad. Bummer.

Cancer cures smoking .... :-(

I really like the concept of the novel, however, I'm not sure if it's a 100% autobiographical story. Life is full of ups and downs, sometimes you feel like you're on top of the world and other times you're flat on your face! The point is to not let strong emotions rule over you! Keep emotions fairly in check and you'll be fine. Well, this is just my opinion and it's easy to say :)

Also, metaphorically speaking, if I had to travel to Mars to find my true love, I would do :)

Hi Johnny,
Thank you for the correction!
I haven't seen "The American President," but it must be a nice one.
Was "Eat,Pray, Love" not so popular in the US?

Hi Justin,
Thanks for your comment.
Yeah, there are both good things and bad things, which might be turned out to be good things, in our lives. The author used to be (or IS?) very emotional and had been suffering from depression, and she wanted the 'strong emotions' that you mentioned, I think.

I hope your true love is in a place nearer than Mars!

^_^ Yeah, somewhere on this planet would be better, much easier to get to! I started to read "The Kite Runner" today. Have you heard of it? It won a number of awards a few years ago.

However, it maybe best to read the English version.

I didn't know either the novel or film of it, but it seems to be a nice one!
I like the Japanese title '君のためなら千回でも,' too. :-)

うまい!You write really well!

I would go to Japan, and experience the language. Of course, I hear that it's a very beautiful country too, with awesome food. I see that in the Japanese dramas I watch too.
