Do you know drinking culture of Korean university students?
I don't know how to describe this culture to you, but I will try my best to explain to you guys about it.
In Korea, It is very common things for Sunbae(선배) to press drink on Hoobae(후배).
The reason why I use the original Korean words "Sunbae" and "Hoobae" in this entry is that I couldn't find interchangeable words for them.
I think English don't have proper English equivalents.
(If you know any words that translate it into English equivalents, please let me know!!)
Sunbae means someone who got into his or her university more earlier than Hoobae.
Hoobae can be defined as a someone who is a few years below Sunbae in his or her university.
In the beginning of the semester, many students usually have a lot of drinking parties.
In March, there are many formal parties including OT(orientation), welcome party for the freshman and freshwoman(신입생 환영회), party for beginning the lecture(개강총회), MT(Department outing or excursion), Club(동아리) party and so on...
They may be forced to attend drinking parties by Sunbae in many ways. If they don't attend the parties, they will become an outsider who is not accepted by his colleagues and Sunbae.
If you come to Korea here and go out with Korean student for drinks, you will experience fun Korea drinking party and be surprised how extreme the party is.
During the party, you will see your friend you think that he is shy and calm becoming an dead-drunk man. He may have a drink continuously and circulate the glass of Soju every time.
He may repeteadly fill your glass until you can't take it... no no no.. even though you can't take any more drink.
Yes. Filling others glass and offering a glass of beer or Soju are very common things. We regard this as a something recommandable. But this situation can easily make misunderstanding between Korean student and foreign student, because some country consider it rude behavior.
And, you can see many games for drinking party. There is no end to it If I start telling you about it. But If you let me tell you some of them...
공동묘지 게임(graveyard game or Ah~ shock game), 딸기 게임(strawberry game) 007빵 게임(007shot game), 바니바니 게임(Bani bani), 369 게임(369 game), 베스킨 라빈스 31(Baskin robbins 31), 쥐를 잡자 게임(Let's catch a mouse game), 훈민정음(Hunminjeongeum), 더 게임 오브 데쓰(The game of death), 왕게임(being a king game), 손병호 게임(Son, Byeong-ho game), 야너임마 게임(Hey!you game), 사랑해게임(I love you game), 호빵진빵대빵 게임(Hobbang Jjinbbang Daebbang game) and so on............
Although you don't know those games, you don't have to worry about it. In Korea, we have simple rule that "If you don't know the game, you have to learn it as you have a penalty drink!!." "The random game that you can be familiar with by drinking" t or "마시면서 배우는 랜덤 게임!"
Ah! To come to think of the game, Each game has each intro song.
For example, intro song of 공동묘지 게임((graveyard game or Ah~ shock game) is
"아 공동묘지에~ 올라갔더니~ 시체가 벌떡! 시체가 벌떡! 벌떡! 벌떡! 벌떡벌떡벌떡! 아~ 쇼크!"
"Well, since we have entered the graveyard, The courpses suddenly got up! The corpses suddenly god up! god up! god up! god up god up god up! ah~ shock!"
and intro song of 더 게임 오브 데쓰(The game of death) is
"신난다! 재미난다! 더 게임 오브 데쓰!"
"Exciting! Fun! The game of death!"
and intro song of 베스킨 라빈스 31 (Baskin robbins 31) is
"베스킨 라빈스 써리원! 귀엽고 깜찍하게 써리원!"
"Baskin robbins thirty one! cute and lovely thirty one!
If someone win the last place or get caught for breaking the game rules, he will receive a penalty(Of course..... heavy drink as punishiment) as he hear the penalty song we chant,
the penalty song is
"마셔라! 마셔라! 마셔라! 마셔라! 술이 들어간다! 쭉쭉쭉쭉~~ 쭉쭉쭉쭉~ 언제까지 어깨춤을 추게할꺼야!?"
"Drink! Drink! Drink! Drink! Alcohol is getting into your body! jjuk jjuk jjuk jjuk~ jjuk jjuk jjuk jjuk~ Hey, How long will you make me shoulder dance?(When will you stop my shoulder dance?)"
We have more interesting songs used in the drinking party.
The song that make particular someone burst out into any song for whatever reason is
"한박자 쉬고, 두박자 쉬고, 세박자 마저쉬고, 하나! 둘! 셋! 넷!"
"Relax first rhythm, Relax second rhythm, also relax third rhythm and one! two! three! four!"
If he(someone) doesn't start his song, we will sing the song
"아 둘! 둘! 셋! 넷!"
"Well two! two! three! four!"
If he doesn't start his song again, we will sing the song
"아 셋! 둘! 셋! 넷!"
"Well three! two! three! four!"
If he doesn't start his song again!!! we will give him this song
"이번판은 나가립니다! 다음판을 기대하세요! 다음판도 나가리면 소주한병 원샷입니다!"
"this stage is out of stage! Let's expect next stage! if the nexs stage is also out of stage, you must drink glass of Soju bottom up!"
If he doesn't drink his glass bottom up, he may listen to this song
"야이 X발놈아! X발놈아! X브랄 놈아!" -_-;
"Hey! motherXXXXer! motherXXXXer! motherXXXXXer!
or
"원샷을 못하면 장가를 못가요! 야이 X발놈아! 장가를 못가면 재미를 못봐요! 야이 X발놈아!"
"If you don't drink your glass bottop up, you can't get marrige! what a motherXXXXer! If you don't get marriage, you can't enjoy your life! What a motherXXXXer!" -_-;
I'm afraid I can't let you guys know more in detail. haha.

"If you don't drink your glass bottom up, you can't get married!
If you don't get married, you can't enjoy your life!
"Yes" and "no no no" are word for talking to myself.
"jjuk" is Korean onomatopoeia "쭉", which refers to "sound that someone drink up or bottom up something"
Thank Marina and Confect!

If someone gets last place or gets caught for breaking the game rules, he will receive a penalty(Of course.....
heavy drink as punishment). As he hears the penalty song, we chant.
The penalty song is
Alcohol is getting into your body!
hahahaha ^^
jjuk jjuk jjuk jjuk~ jjuk jjuk jjuk jjuk~ Hey, How long will you make me shoulder dance?(When will you stop my shoulder dance?)"
Is this like "gulp gulp gulp?" I like the Korean onomatopoeia here. ^.^
We have more interesting songs used in the drinking party.
I agree!
The song that makes any particular person (anyone) burst out into any song for whatever reason is
"Relax first rhythm, Relax second rhythm, also relax third rhythm and one!
"Relax first rhythm" do you mean like a rest in music? Something you would see on a music score denoting silence? So.."1-2-3-4 Rest, rest, rest,1-2-3-4?"
We will give him this song,
"This stage is out of stage!
If the next stage is also out of stage, you must drink glass of Soju, bottoms up!"
If he doesn't drink his glass bottoms up, he has to listen to this song:
I'm afraid I can't let you guys know anymore details.
If you have a chance to have a drink with Korean friends, you will know all of it!!
You know, I watch some Korean variety shows sometimes and I am always thinking. . ."They have a song for every little thing" hahaha.
Whenever I get to Korea, you have to take me out drinking! hahaha It sounds so fun!
I agree with you. We have a song for every little thing. haha.
I have seen many foreign students were surprised by wild and extreme Korea drinking party!
If you get to Korea, I will take you out to a drinking party! hahaha!
This video shows that a man breaks the rule of 눈치게임.
In this video, you can see the man drinking his glass of Soju bottom up.
Other people are singing a penalty song. haha

(one shot!) means "Bottoms up!" . It is a Konglish.
This video may show you "graveyard game" haha.
