I saw a solar eclipse this morning. It reminds me of one myth. I'll tell you.
Once upon a time there was a sibling of God.
The sun goddess was eldest and she governed the world. Her name was Amaterasu(アマテラス).
She loved her little brother though he was a bear. His name was Susanoo(スサノオ).
He often get into mischief. People was complaining about him but she always screen him from blame. Susanoo became conceited.
One day Susanoo threw chickens into a sacred weaving room. It threw weaver ladies went to a panic and a weaver lady dead.
Amaterasu was very shocked. she disappeared in a cave and she closed the door with a big stone. Darkness covered the world. Other gods were in trouble so they discussed about taking her back.
They gave a party in front of the cave. Amateras thought why people so pleased?
They said 'we celebrate a new sun goddess'.
She moved the stone door a little to see the new goddess. Suddenly a herculean god opened the stone door by force. He took Amaterasu from the cave.
The world took back sunlight. Susanoo was deported from the land.

I don't believe the theory.Susanoo was not the god of the moon.
If this theory was right, anceint Japanese didn't know the reason that the moon blocks out the sunlight.
The pirod of eclipse is very short.
I believe this story discribed another phenomenon that the sunlight was blocked over a long time.
An astronomer said that there was eclipse in the year of Himiko(卑弥呼)'s death. He thought that phenomenon caused to make Amaterasu.
I think it's a interesting theory.
I hadn't know the theory. That is very interesting!
