実はそれがそうでもないのです。日本人でも少し混乱していることろです。
厳密には日曜日が週の始めと言うとことらしいのですが、ほぼ全ての日本人の感覚では、月曜日が週の始まりです。
日本の週の始まりは、月曜日とだ考えて大丈夫だと思います。

私もそう思う。日本人はあまり宗教心はないので、日曜始まりのカレンダーを使っていても気にならないだろうけど、月曜始まりの方がしっくりくるのではないかな、と。

I think most people in Japan feel Monday is the first day of the week. Because they start working or studying from Monday in a week.

たいていの日本人は、小学校６年生までは月曜日が週の始まりだと信じています。ところが、中学校に入って、英語で、「Sunday, Monday, Tuesday...」と習い始めると、「あれっ、どうして日曜日からスタートするんだろう？」と、異文化の発想の違いに気付きはじめます。そして、だんだん大人になっていく過程で、「まあ、どっちでもいいや」となっていきますね。

皆さんのコメントとあってるのですが、私の1週間は日曜に始まるのですが、私のかみさんは、月曜派です。ですので、うちでは、来週の日曜日という時には、日にちを指定する必要があります（汗）。

アメリカでも両方の日が始まる日となることができるので、普段 the start of this weekとはあまり言わなく、this coming Mondayとかthis coming Sundayだと明らかに言いますね。
うちでコミュニケーションがよく出来るように。＾＾
