When there was our cooked Japanese food in refrigerator and my roommate was looking for something to eat, I would like to say “良かったら食べてね“. “Would you like to have it?” is the same meaning?

"help yourself" is useful, but I can't use the words naturally. When I serve food on each dishes,can I use the words?
I thought that "help yourself" is "free food".
