Do you know Teikan style?
This picture is the Aichi prefectural office build 1938. It look like a building put on the Japanese castle.
In 1930s, Japan walk to the load of nationalism and wars. Japanese people wanted the Japanese style building. (They didn't want the modernism architecture.) So, Kikutaro Shimoda was proposed Teikan style buildings.
The Teikan style born in the era of nationalism but the Teikan style don't rule out the things European. Teikan style have the European style not only the Japanese style.
Many Teikan style buildings was build in Taiwan and Manchukuo. So, some people say "Teikan style is shameful style. It symbolizes the imperialism."
Teikan style is shameful? I don't think so. It's very cool because it in harmony with European and Japanese.
After the Meiji era, Japanese people imitated many European things. But, Japanese people didn't forget to improve it. I think that people of developing country imitated some European or Japanese things is good. But, please don't forget to improve it not only make poor imitations.

Are you familiar with the Teikan style?/Have you heard of the Teikan style?
"Do you know Teikan style?" sounds kind of awkward. These sound more natural.

What you said is that the picture is the actual office.
"This picture is Picasso's first picture. The picture is from a building in Paris." In the first sentence you say what the picture is, while in the second you say what the pictures content is.

From the japanese part, as far as I can understand you are trying to say that it looks like it's on top of a castle. That's why i think you want to use "a" instead of "the" here. If you say "the Japanese castle" it means you are having a certain castle in mind when saying that.
"I ate the apple." means that you ate a certain apple (あるりんご）.
"I ate an apple?" means that you just ate an apple（りんご）.
Many japanese get this wrong. As far as i understand if you can put この／その／あのお城 and it still has a similar meaning you should use "the". If you mean it looks like any Japanese castle you shold use "a/an". There might be some exceptions but this is pretty much it.

I feel like this sounds more natural. You could also say: The Teikan style was born in the era of nationalism, but the Teikan style doesn't exclude European elements.
The Teikan style was also influenced by the European style and not only from the Japanese style.
When talking about styles ( in art, music, architecture, etc), If a certain style has elements from other styles, you could say "XX was influenced by YY". This expressions sounds pretty advanced and you should use it when you can, because it makes your english sound really good.
Anyway, you can also say: The Teikan style also has European elements/parts, not only Japanese.

This sounds more natural. Since you said you don't think the Teikan style is not shameful, It feels like you are expressing your thoughts on this subject in the next sentence. That's why it kinda feels like it needs "I think/In my opinion".

But, The Japanese people didn't forget to improve those.
Since you are talking about "many European things" you can't say it.
I think that people of developing countries imitating some European or Japanese things is good.

Anyway, I didn't know of the Teikan style before reading your entry. This was a great read. Though, i feel like i don't know much about japanese history. I should look up more on that :x
I think Japanese history isn't known enough to non-Japanese. So, I'll write entries about Japanese history.
