A(a overseas student): hmm... I don't know. "Otukaresama desu" is can't say in English. It's only Japanese. What is "Otukaresama desu" means?
I: "Otukaresama desu" is ... well... "Otukare" mean tired. So... maybe... hmm... I can't! What it mean is! lol
A: lol
"Otukaresama お疲れ様" is a greeting in place of work. Many Japanese usually say it "Otukaresama desu お疲れ様です".
I was searched what it mean. But I can't see it. So I still don't know.
Why am I use "Otukaresama desu" without understand mean. It's strange.
In 2channel(2ちゃんねる) BBS or niconico(ニコニコ動画), "Otukaresama desu お疲れ様です" is abbreviated to "Otu おつ or 乙". This internet slang clearly means "Good Job" or "Thanks". For example:
"upu otu うpおつ" ... "upu" mean "Upload". So, it mean "Thank you for upload."
"da sure otu 駄スレ乙" ... "da" is "boring". "sure" is "topic". So, it mean "Thank you for your boring topic. (sarcasm)".

I finally learned some japanese internet slang, lol!
I've seen お疲れ様 translated in anime as "Good work!" or "Good job!" but i don't think that's quite what it means. Either way, お疲れ様 is left as "Otsukaresama" most of the time.
> お疲れ様 translated in anime as "Good work!" or "Good job!"
お疲れ様 has 2 means. 1st, "Good work!" or "Good job!" (I think you want to say it). 2nd, a greeting in workplace.
When I talked with my classmate (he is a overseas student), he say "In outside of Japan, we don't say anything at leave work the office. If I say something, I'll say "Good bye" or "See you tomorrow!". But, we normally haven't any greeting.".
And sorry. I can't understand your English text well because my poor English skill.
おつかれさま is use to thanks people for they work hard and make things accomplished. おつかれさま is focus on "the process of people do effort on a mission", so compare with ありがとう, おつかれさま is narrow use.
I think too. But おつかれさま is not only use to it.
My question what says おつかれさま as a greeting in English?
Do you have some greetings in English at leave work the office?
