Miyu : '~ (18)

Miyu : Japanese people care too much about what others think? (3)

When you are little, you don't care what others think at all. You do everything in the way you want.

As you grow up, you realize that what you do has influences on other people. If you do something which others do no think is good, they might start avoiding any more interactions with you. You learn it by experience, and you realize that you have to care what others think about you whenever you do something.

I think this idea is universal. Everybody cares about how others are seeing you or how they would see you.

It is said Japanese people are more considerate of other people's views compared to other countries' people.
Do you have any experience to support this theory?

Miyu : Not-understandable Cultural Difference (2)

There are many international students in my university. I can say that the students in my university relatively understand the different cultures. Actually, we have our own unique university culture; the diffusion of Japanese and other cultures. Japanese students have been effected in many ways by foreign cultures consciously or unconsciously by interacting with international students or by studying abroad.

I, also am in such a unique culture. I have never lived in foreign countries, but I can say that I am much more conprehensive towards different cultures than the ordinary Japanese people.

Recently, I found a new thing in our culture.
That is... people doing 'lovey-dovey in front of public'(I don't know how to say it in English..) has started appearing in this university....

Well, it might be normal to kiss in a public place in foreign countries, but here is Japan! Japanese people do not think that is normal..=_=

Honestly, my opinion is kissing in public is too much.
I do not want it to be a part of our university culture....I cannot accept it...

What do you think?

Miyu :

이번은 너무 의역한 것 같다...조금 후희한다. 정확하게 가사 뜻을 표현하려고 해서 괸히 쓴 것 같아. 가사라는 것은 다 말로 펴현하지말고 조금 부족한 부분이 있어야 할텐데....=_=;;;

Miyu : The Japan Constitution (2)

I'm taking the course of 'Japan's constitution and law' this semester.

In the classes, I have learnrd about the characteristics of the previous constitution(the 1947? constitution), how the current constitution was created, controversies about the pacifism principle(Article 9), and the electoral system in Japan.

The most impressive thing so far is that I came to know that debates on Article 9, whether we should amend Article 9 or not, is not as simple as I thought.
Before I learned, I thought that people trying to change Article 9 wanted to change Japan into a militarism state, but the fact is not just like that.

Article 9 is really ambiguous so that you cannot tell if it prohibits the use of force for the purpose of self-defence. Moreover, it does not mention about participation in world peacekeeping operations or the U.S. Japan security treaty since these affairs are new emergenced issues after the establishment of the constitution.
Therefore, some people argue that they need to amend Article 9 to make our stance clear. The Japan's Supreme court has avoided to face this constitutional problem for a long time.

I cannot conclude my opinion either. I need to have more knowledge to make a conclusion....

Miyu : My improved English skills, which is told by Harry Potter (7)

When I was 16 years old, I bought the final book of Harry Potter written in English.
The book was too difficult for me at that time, but now, I can read it.

It's still difficult, especially vocaburaly. Some are the words I've never heard.
But if I read a whole sentence, I mostly understand it.

Reading an original text is completely different from reading a translation. Through an original text, you directly communicate with the author.

One of the merits of learning English is you can enjoy more original versions.
Not only books, but also movies, dramas, music, and so on. I really appreciate this merit.

I had been away from lang-8 for a while.
How have you been?

I ate soba (a kind of Japanese food), on which green onion was put for lunch today.

Then I met one of my friends, and she said:
"Did you smoke a cigarette?"

Of course I didn't. (I do not like the smell of tabacco)
But, yeah, green onion smells like cigarettes. That's my new finding today.

Miyu : Globalization (2)

These days, I'm studying about globalization in 2 classes, and I often think about it.

I don't know if it is bad or good for us.

For example, for me, it's very good. I can get more ideas, technologies, goods and so on all over the world. The traditional thinking way of Japanese is changing because of globalization, and it's mostly in a good way. I can live longer because of the development of medicine at the global level, and I can get cheaper goods, which are imported from overseas. Also, I can travel abroad and communicate with foreign people in English.

But how about people in developing countries or poor countries?
One of my teachers said that people in poor countries do not even know what is globalization. Well, it's quite reasonable because they are struggling to survive each day.

I have the capacity to think about what globalization is, what I want to eat at dinner, and... about that person. I do not feel it in daily life, but I am really privileged.

If I had to see people who are in hunger and almost dying, if I had to face them everyday, it would be painful. It would be like when you see someone bullied a lot. But world hunger and poverty do not come to your eyes. It can't be seen because it's happening far away.

Oops, I had changed the subject without knowing it.

Anyway, I'd like it if you could post some comments. Thank you.
