I learned that in Welsh, to say, for instance, "I speak Welsh," the form is "dw i'n siarad Cymraeg." (I understand there are many ways, varying according to dialect, to say "dw i," but let's ignore that for now.) However, there are also conjugated forms in Welsh, which confuse me: what is the difference between "dw i'n siarad" and "siarada i"?

Thank you very much for any help. Mae dysgu'r Gymraeg yn ddyrys, achos dw i'n gwnead o trwy'r rhyngrwyd!

I think they're basically the same. Siarada(f) i - I speak/am speaking - dw i'n siarad is I am speaking. Dw is short for ydw, short for yr ydw (archaic), first person singular of the verb to be (bod). Perhaps a native speaker can verify. I was waiting for one, but since no one responded, I did.

Croeso i'r safle yma!

Helo Mattie,
Emma dw i ac dw i'n dysgu Eidaleg hefyd. I had a quick look at your Italian posts, but you are much more advanced than I am. I'm new at Italian. So maybe English will be our common language (for now at least) since I don't speak French. (My daughter was learning it for three years.) How long have you been learning Italian? It's much more difficult than Welsh. And which internet Welsh course are you using?

@Antwn: Diolch! Dw i'n hapus i weld that there are people here able to help me with Welsh =]

Saysomething is a good choice. You can learn a lot with the first 30 free lessons. After that you can look for something else. There are free lessons at BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/learning/learnwelsh/
I particularly recommend 'The Lloyds' for beginners. That's one of the sites I used when I first started learning Welsh. Pob lwc, a bydda i'n hapus i dy helpu hefyd.

I'll translate what I said in English, then =] Here:

I hope it's ok if I talk to you in Italian; I don't have many opportunities to practise. Since French is my first language, I'm sure learning Italian was easier for me than learning Welsh will be, but thanks anyway for the encouragement and good luck with Italian! So far, I've used SSIW to learn Welsh, but, contrary to what they say on their front page, only the first 30 lessons are free. I've had to stop taking the course, since I'm too young to own a credit card: I can't pay for the lessons! If you know of another course, I'd be very happy to hear about it :) In order to ameliorate my knowledge of Welsh grammar, I've also used the "Welsh grammar" page on the French-language Wikipedia.

Diolch. Dw i'n awyddus i siarad gen ti ail!

yea I agree with antwn in a way:)...we say dwi'n siarad cymraeg more often coz its more of a present tense and its .dwi'n ti'n chi'n ryda ni'n siarad cymraeg (meaning I (am) you (are)informal/formal we) are personal pronouns, and we talk using personal pronouns so the listener understands.. ....
siaradaf "i" cymraeg means "to speak welsh"
siarada cymraeg is an order (the person is ordering or telling u to speak welsh)
cysga-the person is telling u/someone to sleep..(thats another example of why a is added to form a command..:)
just use the personal pronoun when you want to say I speak or I am speaking :)
for the past tense :I spoke (to Rhodri :) siaradais i Rhodri :)
