I weeded my small yard with my wife last Sunday.
The yard was overrun with weeds.
It was difficult to uproot weeds.
And then we enjoyed a barbecue in the yard.

The yard was overgrown with weeds. Although "overrun" can also be used, I replaced it with "overgrown". I hope this is fine.
It was difficult to uproot these.
